Joy Reid calls for Mar-a-Lago to be turned into 'Black LGBTQ museum' to avenge Trump's White House demolition
Ousted former MSNBC star Joy Reid called for an extreme response to President Donald Trump's demolition of the White House's East Wing - including converting his Mar-a-Lago residence into a museum for black and LGBT people.
'I pray that a future president if we still have a democracy will erase every trace of Trump's existence,' she wrote in a post on Bluesky.
'Raze every edifice he's built; strip his name from everything, restore the White House as if he never lived there & turn Mar-a-Lago into a Black, LGBTQ, women's, AAPI & immigrant history museum.'
The progressive ex-host panned the president again during a conversation with former GOP strategist Steve Schmidt.
'This is not an American president. An American president is somebody who has reverence for the American experiment, who has reverence for the Constitution, who has reverence for the process and for the American people,' she said.
'The destruction of the East Wing is a metaphor for what this man, this venal character, has promised to do to the American experiment and is doing to it,' Reid added.
'I'm- I am horrified.'
The administration is facing a flurry of negative coverage for its decision to completely demolish the East Wing without any notice early last week to make way for a planned $300million ballroom.

Trump previously promised the construction would not interfere with the mansion itself. He has since maintained it will be paid for privately.
Late last week, major companies like Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, and Microsoft were revealed as backers of the gilded ballroom, each offering an unspecified sum.
Comcast, the parent company of Reid's former network, was also on the list of donors.
Before the list of donors was detailed, Reid took to TikTok to suggest the brunt of the project would be felt by the American taxpayer.
'We are in the middle of a government shutdown. We supposedly do not have any money that’s available to extend the subsidies to your healthcare,' she said.
'We don’t have that money, but somehow we have all kinds of extra coins available to get two private planes for Kristi Noem and her staff to use to try to purchase buildings in Chicago for ICE to use because nobody will let them use the bathroom or eat in their establishments.'
She added: 'But no money for you. No money for food stamps, people are gonna run out of food stamps, those are not gonna be renewed. It’s gonna create a crisis of hunger across this country.'

Her former colleague, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, this week took aim at the media giant for its donation.
'Those public-facing companies should know there's a cost in terms of their reputation with the American people,' Maddow, who earns $25million a year to host her show just once a week, said Monday.
Back in February, Maddow used her platform to speak out against her bosses following Reid's firing.
That same month, the Federal Communication Commission announced a probe into Comcast's DEI initiatives and practices.
An insider at MSNBC told Politico that Reid's her controversial social media posts - including shaming Latino Republicans for voting for Trump and claiming the media's preoccupation with Russia's invasion of Ukraine was motivated by the victims being 'white and largely Christian' - 'gave the Standards Department heartburn.'
In January, Reid compared President Donald Trump to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler on Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Network bosses began plotting to get rid of Reid in late 2023 and ultimately offered her a one-year contract extension, while also cutting her pay in the hopes she'd take the hint and quit, sources told Daily Mail at the time.
