If you’re over Dry Jan, let me introduce you to ‘Try Jan’ – a gently rebellious alternative that champions moderation and curiosity. It’s a month for trying something new – whether that’s a fresh grape variety, an unexpected region or a different style altogether – to lift us out of the January greyness. This week’s line-up is all about discovery, taking in a brooding red from Georgia, an unusual French find and an aromatic Romanian white.

Think Syrah with a wilder edge. Delivering meaty, earthy depth, perfume and dark berries, matured for 18 months in oak – a proper winter warmer.

From 25-year-old vines in Southwest France, this unoaked red delivers wild blackberry fruit, a floral lift and a flicker of green pepper, brilliant with game or gently spiced dishes.

Aromatic and floral with blossom and citrus, like stepping into a florist in May, pair this Romanian charmer with fish, light poultry, veggie dishes and colourful salads.

Salty and crisp with crushed shell, orchard fruit, lemon pith and a very dry, refreshing finish. Perfect with simply prepared shellfish or raw and cured fish.
