More women masturbate Down Under than in the UK but fewer have used a vibrator: Discover how Australians stack up against the British in the sex stakes

  • Vibrator company Smile Makers have surveyed women from around the world
  • They wanted to know how many were sexually satisfied and masturbate
  • The results were not necessarily what they had hypothesised at the beginning
  • Women in Asia tended to be more sexually satisfied than in Europe
  • But more individuals in Europe had tried a vibrator or were open to doing so

Have you ever wondered how your sex life stacks up in comparison to ladies around the world?

One company wanted to get to the bottom of our differing - or similar - bedroom habits and conducted a survey of international women to uncover what their perceptions of sexual satisfaction, masturbation and vibrators are.

Smile Makers found some significant variances between Australia and their UK counterparts.

For example, more people Down Under have masturbated (67 per cent against 58 per cent), but more women in the Northern Hemisphere use a vibrator (56 per cent to 47 per cent).

The countries aren't equal when it comes to the topic of being sexually satisfied either, with more women in Australia (58 per cent) more inclined to say they were than those in the UK, who were at 41 per cent.

In comparison to European countries Australians masturbate more than women in Belgium but less than the Swiss.

Across the board Asian countries like Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia and Hong Kong were more sexually adventurous than Aussies were (in terms of masturbation and feeling satisfied by a partner).

But those that hadn't tried a vibrator weren't interested in general.

Mattias Hulting, the founder of Ramblin' Brands, who own Smile Makers, said that countries are more similar than they are different.

'In general, the majority of adult women are either using or open to using a vibrator,' he told FEMAIL.

'More than nine in 10 across cultures view women who own a vibrator neutrally or positively, and there is a major opportunity to improve sexual satisfaction.

'Before we did these surveys, we almost assumed more conservative places like Malaysia or Hong Kong would have a significantly lower percentage of women who masturbate or use a vibrator, and that they would be more judgmental against sex toys.

'But it's actually not the case; it's more unpredictable than that. For example, far fewer French or Belgian women are open to using vibrators than in Taiwan or Hong Kong.

'Fewer UK women masturbate than in Malaysia despite a much lower sexual satisfaction rate. So we go into countries with a very open mind and no pre-conceptions to try to understand how our products can make a difference.'
