It's an age-old problem facing every woman - how to find a bra which goes with every outfit. Now for those looking for underwear which suits every top from backless to strapless, this could be just the answer.

Lingerie makers at Wonderbra have come up with a push-up bra which can be strapped on in at least 100 different ways.

They claim the Multiplunge bra can be matched to any daring outfit women choose to wear during the Christmas party season.

Julia Nolan, of Wonderbra, said: "This is the bra girls have been waiting for.

"Our previous plunge bra could be done up in three ways to separately suit normal, halterneck or criss-cross backed tops.

"But the feedback we were getting from customers was that they wanted something that could also be worn with a low-plunging top.

"Now no matter how daring the outfit, this bra can be easily adjusted to suit any item simply by moving the straps around the cup and back."

The Multiplunge, which is available from sizes 32A to 36DD, works through a system of extra eyelets and straps which are longer than normal.

Up to 40 eyelets have been sewn into the top edge of the cups and back of the £26 bra.

The padded underwear, sold together with a list of instructions, comes with three extendable straps which can be hooked onto the eyelets in any combination.

The variations on the seamless bra give a smooth outline which can be adapted to wear under one-shoulder, halterneck, cross-backed, low--cut and strapless tops and dresses.

And because the join between the cups is made of a transparent plastic, it even counters the problem of what to wear under outfits which are revealing at both the front and back.

Miss Nolan said: "Before now it has not been possible to wear a bra under a halterneck backless top.

"Now all you have to do is make the front strapless, push down the strap at the back and tie it around the waist.

"The bra is much less complicated to do up than it appears at first - and instead of having to buy a number of different bras for different tops, this one does everything a girl wants."

The bra was launched by 100 models at the National Gallery in London.

It will initially be available in black and sold in department stores and Wonderbra outlets across the country.

White and flesh-coloured versions will be on sale from next spring.

Last month Wonderbra came up with Curves Up, a padded pair of knickers designed to mimic the curves of Jennifer Lopez.

Every year women spend more than £90 million on push-up bras, according to consumer analysts TNS FashionTrak. Women aged between 45 and 54 make up for more than one in five sales.
