Many YOU readers responded to Dr Ali's recent column about oral lichen planus, itchy lesions which develop on the gums and lining of the mouth.
Lesley Blood says that the only toothpaste she can tolerate - "which also has a beneficial effect on the condition" - is Weleda Calendula toothpaste (£2.35, from health stores nationwide).
And Malcolm Crawford's dentist prescribed a mouthwash called Gengigel by Oraldent (£7.99, tel: 01480 862080, www.oraldent.co.uk) for a gum disease, which had the bonus of banishing his lichen planus. That was five years ago and it hasn't come back, he says, adding that his dentist confirmed that three other patients had found the same effect.
