Front row: Q&A with Aevha founder Alice Horlick
When your mother is Nicola Horlick, one of the country’s most famous wonder-women, the pressure is on when you decide to start your own business. But 27-year-old Alice Horlick is unfazed. She is slowly growing her label, Aevha, into a go-to for great Italian leather pieces that won’t cost four figures.

Why fashion not finance? I did physics, chemistry, art and English A-levels so I could have gone either way, but I’ve always been pretty artsy.
I tried a psychology degree but lasted two weeks, then I did a foundation fashion course and fell in love with leather.
I joined the London College of Fashion’s BA womenswear design course but didn’t finish it – I just wanted to get on with things!
Inspiration? Fashion-wise, Anya Hindmarch. On the business side, my parents – I was brought up with a ‘the sky’s the limit’ ethos. Your style? Ladylike – I never ever wear trousers.
Dresses are easier – it’s just one thing to worry about.
Go-to brands? Sandro and Maje.
Ambition? To own a bricks and mortar shop. Online is great for getting the business going, but we all want to touch things before we buy them.

Fashion Me Now blogger Lucy Williams proves she’s pretty nifty in the design department too with her second collection for Missoma – perfect for special gifts. £39-£125, missoma.com
Ellery and MacGraw are two Australian labels you no longer have to travel halfway around the globe to source.
Ellery is a high-end collection designed by Kym Ellery, who trained in London and is now based in Sydney (blouses, above, from £205, stylebop.com).
MacGraw are two sisters who create brilliant silk and lace separates. We’d quite frankly sell the rest of our wardrobe for these standout pieces.
