I have to admit, until quite recently if I had read the words ‘asymmetric, one-sleeved jumper in a shade of browny-beige’ I would not have been particularly interested. In fact, I might have run a mile from that particular garment.
However, then You’s Fashion Director Sophie Dearden-Howell sent me this photo of herself in the Marks & Spencer changing rooms, and I changed my mind.

The jumper costs just £29.50 from M&S, and unsurprisingly it’s already sold out once. Now though, the knit – which ticks several current trend boxes with its neutral hue and directional shape – is back in stock.
‘It’s such a chic jumper,’ says Dearden-Howell. ‘It looks elevated and expensive. It’s also very comfortable to wear. I sized up for a slouchy, more oversized feels, which I think always makes an item look more luxurious, because the material drapes rather than clings to your body.’
But how should you style it? Dearden-Howell advises ‘pair with flowing lightweight trousers in silk or linen, plus sunglasses and gold, chunky jewellery.’
Of course, the number one question is – what on earth are you meant to bra-wise, if you’re not small boobed enough to get away without one? Dearden-Howell says ‘I recently discovered this strapless bra, which is a game changer for tops like this - its so comfy and holds by 36DD right where they are meant to be without cutting me in two.’
A textured finish adds to the contemporary feel
M&S shoppers are pleased with the jumper too, giving it largely five-star reviews on the website. One said it made them ‘feel like a million dollars’ while another said it was ‘such high quality for the price point’.
As well as the cappuccino shade Dearden-Howell loves, the jumper is also available in black, and is sold in sizes extra small to extra large.
