THE GREEN GUIDE: Moth negroni

What’s the story?

Moth (an acronym for Mix of Total Happiness) was founded by childhood friends Rob Wallis and Sam Hunt in London in 2019. Since then it has become the fastest-growing premium ready-to-drink brand in the UK.

Why should I buy?

It’s delicious – a punchy mix of gin, vermouth and bitter amaro. Moth cocktails are all bar-strength, rather than weak and sweet, and are produced in the UK based on ingredients from predominantly local partners. The gin in this negroni, for example, is distilled in Cornwall, while the vodka in other Moth classics comes from Oxford. Suppliers must sign a code of conduct that outlines their expectations across employment practice and business ethics. The company is B Corp certified, and the aluminium cans are infinitely recyclable.

The extra mile

The company got the thumbs-up in a study by independent climate experts Zevero. The team found that production of certain Moth drinks results in 31 per cent fewer greenhouse-gas emissions than versions of the same drinks when freshly mixed in bars.
