This high-street dupe of Soho Home’s side table will save you £800
There’s no doubt that Soho Home is one of the chicest destinations to shop when you’re looking for statement furniture. From modular armchairs to marble coffee tables and velvet footstools, the homeware extension of private members’ club chain Soho House has a collection of mid century-inspired pieces that will instantly add texture and warmth.
Creating a focal point in your living room doesn’t come cheap, at least not at Soho Home. The brand’s selection of coffee and side tables ranges between £295 and £1,995. You can’t sort by price on the website either, which should really serve as a warning for anyone browsing.
Soho Home does offer its Soho House members and Soho Friends a discount. But let’s be honest: 15% off a side table that costs £995 is still £846, and that’s more than most of us can afford to spend on a single piece of furniture.
However, last night I was scrolling through Marks & Spencer’s offering (I’m on the lookout for a new side table for my bedroom, in case you were wondering) and spotted a design that looked notably similar to one I’d previously admired at the designer brand.
Priced at £179, this high-street number is crafted from solid oak and even has a real marble top. Although it doesn’t have the same high-gloss lacquer finish as the high-end version, it does come with a 10-year guarantee and I’d say it's a pretty sleek alternative for those who can’t justify spending just south of £1,000 on a side table.
Plus, as opposed to the Soho Home piece that’s currently sold out on the website, this M&S find is still in stock, so don’t hesitate.
