Cameron Diaz in ‘The Holiday’ is my cold-weather style crush – here’s how to recreate her looks

Christmas is fast approaching, which means it’s time for one of my favourite festive activities: rewatching The Holiday.

The 2006 romcom stars Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet as two single women who agree to swap homes for the holidays. Hollywood producer Amanda Woods (Diaz) heads to a quintessential village in the English countryside covered in snow, while journalist Iris Simpkins settles in sunny Los Angeles.

Soon enough, Amanda finds herself falling for Iris’s brother, Graham Simpkins (Jude Law), a book editor and single father-of-two, and Iris finds love with Miles Dumont (Jack Black), a film composer working with Amanda.

While there’s a lot to swoon over in The Holiday, from the carefully-curated homes (they’ve got that signature Nancy Meyers aesthetic) to Graham’s good looks and irresistible charm, I'm always drawn to Amanda’s incredibly chic outfits.

With a wardrobe that consists of shearling coats, oversized cable knits, knee-high boots and little black dresses, and a colour palette of almost exclusive whites, browns and blacks, Diaz’s character is my cold-weather style crush.

Many of costume designer Marlene Stewart’s picks for Cameron Diaz stood the test of time, so here are six Amanda Woods-approved wardrobe staples I'm still wearing in 2024…

The shearling coat

One of Amanda’s best outfits comes at the start of the film, when she arrives in the English countryside wearing a brown shearling coat, cream roll neck, grey straight-leg jeans and a pair of stilettos. It’s been nearly 20 years but I’m still thinking about that coat.

The roll neck

By the time she’s carted her two huge suitcases down the snowy country lanes up to Iris’s cottage, the shearling coat is tied to her waist and she’s showing off the most perfect, cream roll neck – a capsule winter wardrobe staple.

The cable knit

When lounging around the cottage, Amanda is snuggled up in a comfy-chic combo of grey joggers, a chunky cable knit cardigan and coordinating beanie and scarf. While I question how cold it really was, I don’t question her choice of knitwear.

The faux fur coat

If Charlotte Simone had been around in 2006, I know Amanda would have been in the virtual queue for one of her coats. While a delicate colour for a country walk, I have to admit that the cream outerwear number she wore on her first ‘official’ date with Graham is still on my mind.

The knee-high boots

Underneath the faux fur look, she opted for an off-white silky blouse and blue skinny jeans, which she tucked into a pair of brown over-the-knee boots. This season, it’s all about knee-high boots and I think she’d love these from Massimo Dutti.

The little black dress

In the final scene, both couples reunite in Graham’s house for New Year’s Eve. Amanda’s little black dress is equal measures sexy and sophisticated, with a strapless neckline and sheer midi skirt. She paired the party look with some simple jewellery and black strappy sandals.
