The secret to knowing the asking price for ANY home on the market in Australia in seconds - even if you're prompted to 'contact the agent'

An Aussie property guru has revealed the easy tricks he uses to find the asking price of any home without speaking to a real estate agent.

Davey Hamilton, from popular podcast Everything Property, shared the tips for Aussies looking to break into the country's competitive market - but they do only work on a laptop or desktop computer.

'Here's a hack I bet you didn't know about, if you're sick of agents putting 'contact agent' and you just want to know the price, do this instead,' Mr Hamilton said in a video.

'Go to realestate.com, right click and hit inspect, search 'value' and then scroll down until you see the price.'

While this hack works in NSW, Davey said that QLD buyers might have trouble with their 'relaxed laws' around pricing and VIC already requires prices are listed in ads.

But the next trick will work in every state, and even on Domain: Davey said that buyers can also download the property seeker extension available on Chrome.

Once the extension is installed into your browser, whenever you click on a property listing the price will automatically appear in your search: 'Thank me later.'

While the property expert said that the price the agent enters for any listing may be lower than actual market value - Aussies were loving the 'genius level' hacks.

'Wow this actually works, thanks heaps man,' one potential buyer said.

'I’m going to thank you now,' another agreed.

'You had me at 'if you’re sick of agents',' a third chimed in.

Other people were inspired to share their own creative tips for finding out an asking price without needing to make a phone call first.

'On the app, I use the map view and filter the price down in increments until the property doesn’t show up anymore (so I know at what price it gets filtered out and therefore the rough price the agent listed it for),' one man said.

'My hack is to look at the home loan calculator and it generally gives me an idea of how much they’re chasing,' another added.

Frustrated home-buyers said that Australian property advertising needed more transparency and less reliance on having to go through agents for information.

'In Denmark, the price must be listed, and there is a record of all changes i.e. every price listed, each time it was increased/decreased, what price it was listed for before being taken off the market, and what price it sold for,' one person said.

While one man argued that the tips only revealed the number that a real estate agent had entered and didn't need to reflect the actual price - many agreed knowing the agent's number was a good indication of affordability for most Aussies.

One house hunter thought needing to ask the agent for a price wasn't a bad thing all together: 'Normalise calling real estate agents at 3AM to wake them.'

Another thought that Davey's hack would do nothing to help the current home affordability crisis gripping the nation.

'Spoiler alert. This is Australia, the price is already in or around a million,' he said.
