How green are these handmade candles?
- £16 for two, waxatelier.com
What’s the story?
Wax Atelier was founded by artists and designers Lola Lely and Yesenia Thibault-Picazo. They’d spent several years working together on other projects, bonding over their love of natural wax, before launching the brand in 2017.

Why should I buy?
The candles – made from a combination of beeswax and wax extracted from tea plants (hence the green colour and matcha scent) – are produced in small batches in the company’s East London workshop, with most of their materials sourced locally. Nothing goes to waste – any splashed wax from the dipping process gets scraped off, melted back down and used again. Even the paper packaging is recycled and 100 per cent recyclable.
Why shouldn’t I buy?
Some of the beeswax is harvested from Europe and must be imported.
