Expert guide... How to apply black eyeliner

An occasional column to help you add a touch of glamour. This week, celebrity make-up artist Oonagh O'Connor's step-by-step guide to using black eyeliner.

Step one

STEP ONE: Apply light-reflecting foundation to the face and use a highlighter pen around the eye to conceal blemishes. Then take your black kohl eyeliner (make sure the tip is soft) and draw a fine line, working from the inner eye outwards

Step two

STEP TWO: Build the line, making it slightly thicker on the outer corner of the eye and taking it out to a point, echoing the eye shape. Then, working from the outer eye inwards, take the line under the eye, keeping close to the lashes, right into the inner corner

Step three

STEP THREE: Using a black mascara, build up several layers on the upper and lower lashes - the more the better

Step four

STEP FOUR: To complete the look, add a soft blush to the apples of the cheeks and a pale pink lipgloss
