Thinking of ditching the dye? Opt for warm neutral tones for a chic natural look
As hair loses its colour, your skin may become paler, so you’ll need a lighter foundation. Opt for a cream formula – L’Oréal True Match Foundation has a good selection of tones (right, £8.99, available nationwide). Cover broken capillaries with creamy concealer, such as Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage (£24.47, from spacenk.co.uk).
If your hair is white or silver, cool, neutral colours in matt or slightly pearlescent shades work best. Try Lily Lolo Mineral Eyeshadow in Pure or Gunmetal (right, £5 each, lilylolo.co.uk). If your hair is steel grey, try stronger colours – taupe, khaki or petrol blue. I love Shiseido Silky Eye Shadow Duo in Taffeta Taupe (£22.50, tel: 020 7313 4774). Groomed brows are important. Fill gaps with a brow pencil using soft, feathered strokes and soften with a little brow powder. Pale taupes work best, such as Prescriptives Groom Stick in Clove (£11.74, tel: 0870 034 2566).
A great black mascara such as Maybelline Lash Stiletto (£7.99, available nationwide) will frame and brighten your eyes.
My secret
Apply illuminating cream to the T-zone and cheekbones before your foundation for a youthful, dewy effect. By Terry Teint de Rose is fabulous (£44.04, from spacenk.co.uk).
Nude shades with a peach, bronze or beige tint add warmth to the complexion if you have darker grey hair. Pink and rosy nudes are better for silver. Sheer lipstick gives the most flattering finish – try Becca Sheer Tint Lip Colours (£21, tel: 020 7225 2501) or Sisley Phyto Lipshine in Sheer Rose (right) and Sheer Peach (£22.50, tel: 020 7591 6380).
Cheeks
A cream blush works best with mature skin. For pale skin, go for soft peach, apricot or dusty pink. I like Clarins Multi-Blush in Apricot (£14.68, available nationwide). Rose and berry blushes suit darker skin – try No7 Blush Tint Cream Blush in Rosebud (£10, from Boots).
