Recipe: Easy dark brown bread
MAKES 2 LOAVES
INGREDIENTS
- 400g strong wholemeal flour
- 1 sachet fast-action dried yeast
- good pinch salt
- 1 heaped tbsp dark muscovado sugar or molasses sugar
- 2 tsp light olive oil or vegetable oil, plus extra for the loaf tins
- 4 tbsp mixed seeds
METHOD
- Have ready 2 loaf tins measuring about 19cm x 11cm x 5.5cm (about 800ml capacity). In a bowl, combine the flour, yeast and salt.
- Dissolve the sugar in 400ml lukewarm water (not too hot) and gradually combine the liquid with the flour mixture. Stir in the oil and mix together.
- Lightly oil the loaf tins and divide the mixture between them. Sprinkle 2 tbsp seeds over each loaf, cover with a cloth and leave to rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
- When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 220C/200C fan/ 425F/gas 7 and place a baking sheet inside to get hot. Sit the tins on the baking sheet and bake for 25-35 minutes or until done.
