Why does my dog have sore skin?

My female West Highland has a skin problem. The skin around the edges of

her mouth, the centre of her back and her pads is quite sore and red.

She has been on sterioids from the vet which calm it down, as it was

thought that it was a seasonal allergy.

But this is not the case. If she is allergic will a blood test reveal the cause of the allergy?

Have you any suggestions

as to how to deal with this problem?
