An article of May 22 misquoted James Shayler, a football hooligan jailed for involvement in violence in Marseilles during the 1998 World Cup. Mr Shayler said he is returning to Marseilles to watch England v Russia on June 11 using tickets provided by friends linked to a notorious Russian football fan group. He said he blames Muslims for instigating the Marseilles violence in 1998 and predicts potential further violence in Marseilles in June. He did not however say that he is planning to return to the city to attack Muslims or that ‘England will be with Russia against the Muslims’. We are happy to set the record straight.
