Plastic surgery in America

Nearly 18 million plastic surgery procedures were performed in the US in 2017, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Prevalence of cosmetic surgery has continues to grow across the last decade, with a two percent increase between 2016 and 2017.

More than $16 billion on cosmetic procedures in 2016, but only about four percent of Americans say they have gotten work done. 

The top five surgical procedures in 2017 were:

  1. Breast augmentation (300,378 procedures, up three percent from 2016)
  2. Liposuction (246,354 procedures, up five percent from 2016)
  3. Nose reshaping (218,924 procedures, down two percent from 2016)
  4. Eyelid surgery (209,571 procedures, approximately the same as 2016)
  5. Tummy tuck (129,753 procedures, up two percent from 2016)

 The top five minimally invasive procedures in 2017 were: 

  1. Botox (7.23 million procedures, up two percent from 2016)
  2. Soft Tissue Fillers (2.69 million procedures, up three percent from 2016)
  3. Chemical Peel (1.37 million procedures, up one percent since 2016)
  4. Laser hair removal (1.1 million procedures, down two percent from 2016)
  5. Microdermabrasion (740,287 procedures, down four percent from 2016)
