The life-saving steak
Extra-healthy steak and eggs could soon protect your arteries rather than clogging them, say scientists.
Animals genetically bred to contain fish oils would offer protection against heart disease, Alzheimer's and a host of other diseases.
In the research at Harvard University in Boston, a gene which produces omega-3 fatty acids - which make blood less likely to clot - was successfully "added" to a mouse for the first time. Mammals cannot ordinarily produce omega-3 fatty acids.
The modified mouse was created by splicing the "Fat-1" gene from a roundworm into the genetic sequence of a mouse.
The research, published in the journal Nature, raises the prospect of adding the gene into humans to make us naturally healthier and less vulnerable to heart disease.
