Sleep on it, say scientists
By Charlie Bain
The old wives' tale suggesting we should "sleep on it" to find the solution to a problem appears to be true.
A good night's sleep stimulates creative thinking and problem-solving, according to research.
Scientists at Lubeck University in Germany found those who had eight hours' sleep were almost three times as likely to hit on a solution to a problem they were being tested on, compared to those who had not slept.
The study - published in the journal Nature - provides the first hard evidence supporting the theory that creativity and problem-solving are linked to sleep.
