Is the kiwi the key to life?
by GEORGINA LITTLEJOHN, Metro
It is small, brown and hairy - and does not look particularly appetising.
But kiwi fruit may be the No.1 food for boosting longevity.
It heads a list of the top ten foods that could add years to your life.
Eating tomatoes, avocados, nuts, mackerel and spinach regularly also helps people stay healthy for longer, a survey claims.
Kiwi has a higher level of vitamin C than any other fruit.
Just one provides 40 per cent of the recommended daily intake.
It is also a rich source of vitamin E, vitamin K and magnesium.
Breakfast cereal is also on the list - as long as it is wholegrain, low in fat, sugar and salt and fortified with B vitamins.
"We invest so much money in hi-tech creams to put on our faces but so little on the food that can make a real difference to the way our bodies cope with the passing years," the report in Good Housekeeping magazine said.
"It is what you eat that provides the final, vital element in the antiageing fight."
