Head: Lips
Lips consist of fat and muscle encased in a layer of skin. Some tastebuds can be found in the lips - these are especially sensitive to salt. Lips contain no melanin pigment to protect them from the sun and are easily burned. Their pink colour is due to the blood showing through the transparent skin that covers the lips. The lips help pronounce the five vowels, the tongue helps form consonants.
