Bones: Elbow
The elbow has a special pivot joint which allows two bones to move over each other for great flexibility. Operations to fit artificial elbow joints are less successful than similar knee or hip surgery because the elbow can work itself loose. Tennis elbow, often a sports injury, happens when the muscles in the area become torn. The 'funny bone' sensation of numbness in the elbow is caused by a blow to the ulner nerve which is located alongside the humerus bone.
