Now Nicotine is GOOD for the lungs
Nicotine could treat a lung condition
Nicotine may be an unlikely treatment for an inflammatory lung condition known as sarcoidosis.
It is believed that the chemical suppresses the immune system and reduces inflammation.
Sarcoidosis, more commonly found in young people, is a rare auto-immune disease where the body attacks itself.
It is not known what causes the condition, but symptoms include shortness of breath, fever, dry cough and chest pain.
Clinical trials are now under way with nicotine patches at different strengths - 7mg, 14mg and 21mg - which are worn for three months.
