Urgent recall over pasta salad
Food watchdogs have warned that a mislabeled product poses a 'risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.'
Hans Kissle, a maker of prepared foods and deli salads, has voluntarily recalled 66 units of a misidentified pasta salad.
Lid labels claim the food is a red bliss potato salad that doesn't have wheat. But the product inside is filled with grain that shoppers with gluten allergies must avoid.
The 16-ounce packaged side dish was sold at Stop and Shop in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York.
Impacted products have a sell-by date of August 20. Shoppers who bought the product can return the pasta dish to the grocer for a refund.
No injuries or sickness have been reported from the mislabeled product.
Consumers with wheat intolerance can experience a wide range of digestive issues if they accidentally consume the product, including stomach pain, difficulty with bowel movements, and skin rashes.
Hans Kissle didn't immediately respond to the Daily Mail's request for comment. The federal Food Safety Service says shoppers who have accidentally brought home improperly labeled food should wash all utensils, surfaces, and refrigerators that have come into contact with the recalled food.
Hans Kissle's mischaracterized pasta salad joins a list of other grocery products that are under urgent recall.
Last week, Ada Valley Meat Company recalled 1,065 pounds of frozen ground beef after discovering foreign materials in the product mix.
The beef was shipped to restaurants in California, Delaware, Illinois, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. No injuries have been reported.
On Monday, the FDA escalated its warning on Bunge North America's on-Hydrogenated European Style Butter Blend.
The dairy product is also facing a labeling issue, as it doesn't tell allergic Americans about its use of milk.
