'Let's hold tight and have patience,' Speaker Mike Johnson said when asked by DailyMail.com about his message to his constituents as the market reels from tariffs. 'The president is engaging in a strategy right now. He's negotiating with 60 different countries on better trade agreements between us, and I think you got to have a little patience.' 'This strategy has only been in effect for about a week,' he reasoned.

Rank-and-file Republican lawmakers also sent eyebrow-raising warnings to their constituents as the market remained in flux Monday. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., posted on X: 'I fully back our President! The globalist economic order is in total meltdown mode.' 'Americanism, not globalism, will be our credo!' Luna wrote in another post. 'Interest is up and the stock market's down.

Best advice I can give is, don't go downtown,' Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., wrote in a rhyming X post. Other GOP lawmakers, like Johnson, warned their constituents that it is time to hunker down and prepare for economic turbulence. 'Now is not the time for weakness,' Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., wrote in a statement. 'The Trump Administration is working tirelessly to expose and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse. Congress must follow suit by enacting significant spending cuts. Anything less is unacceptable.'

Rep. Eli Crane, R-Ariz., wrote 'Dr. Navarro is one of the best and most educated on these issues,' alongside a clip of the Trump's trade advisor explaining the president's tariff plan. 'You know what is up? American optimism,' Rep. Keith Self, R-Texas, shared. While Republicans spent Monday posting about their support of the president and his economic plans, Democrats messaged about how the tariffs should, and could, stop.

The Trump tariffs, which are a tax on the American people, are so reckless, so unsteady, so lacking in any sophistication that the only conclusion that one can draw is that Donald Trump and Republicans are intentionally tanking the economy,' House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., told reporters at a Monday afternoon press conference. 'Congress can step in and end the pain,' he said, noting how the White House is 'intentionally inflicting pain on the American people.'
