The price of nobility
Giving up his non-dom status: Lord Ashcroft
All credit to Tory deputy chairman Lord Ashcroft and Labour’s Lord Paul, on giving up their non-dom tax status so they can retain their seats in the Lords.
As for those peers who have refused to make the sacrifice – including that self-regarding Labour luvvie Lord Foster – well, they won’t be missed when they give up their seats to carry on avoiding tax.
Just one question: if they put their bank balances before their public duties, why on Earth should they be allowed to retain their noble titles?
