Guy Pearce, who told me he'll be starring with Kate Beckinsale and Forest Whitaker in the murder mystery movie Winged Creatures. The film will be directed by Rowan Woods, who made the black Aussie comedy Little Fish with Cate Blanchett. Pearce portrays Andy Warhol's darker side in Factory Girl.

Billy Crudup, Tom Wilkinson, Mandy Moore and Martin Freeman, who star in Justin Theroux's directorial debut Dedication, which was screened at Sundance.

The film, which was shot with a minuscule budget in the U.S., is about a children's book writer (Crudup) whose life is blighted by phobias that ruin his relationships with women.

I found it an exquisite study of the hell an artist can go through to produce his work. The version I saw will be cut by about 20 minutes before its release later in the year.

Maggie Smith, who will bring Edward Albee's The Lady From Dubuque to Broadway after Anthony Page's production ends its run in London.

The play begins previews on March 3 at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and opens on March 20. As this page revealed last year, Maggie will be joined in the play by Catherine McCormack.

The cast also includes Chris Larkin and American actors Robert Sella, Vivienne Benesch and Jennifer Regan.

The play marks producer Robert Fox's 25th anniversary in the West End. He has been telling friends The Lady From Dubuque will be his last show, but I feel we'll be hearing more from this urbane Fox.

Elijah Wood, who has joined John Hurt, Anna Massey, Leonor Watling and Julie Cox to shoot director Alex de la Iglesia's mystery movie The Oxford Murders.

When bodies are found covered in mathematical symbols, an American graduate student and a professor team up to solve the crimes. Producer Kevin Loader told me he hired de la Iglesia to give an original look to a very English murder story.
