When Sally met Woody

Sally Hawkins can turn her hand to anything, whether it's using her comic timing to make a fool of herself on Little Britain or playing a gangster's moll in Layer Cake.
Now she's playing Colin Farrell's girlfriend in the untitled Woody Allen movie that's filming in East London with Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell (the best thing about The Line Of Beauty) and Tom Wilkinson.
Following that she will start work with director Adrian Shergold on ITV's TV movie of Jane Austen's Persusasion. Ms Hawkins has the main role of Anne Elliot.
I must just go off on a slight tangent at this point to mention Mr Shergold's brilliant drama for Channel 4 called Low Winter Sun. This is a scorchingly hot, very dark thriller, involving police and hoodlums, starring Mark Strong and Brian McCardie and written by Simon Donald. But back to Ms Hawkins.
She has appeared in two Mike Leigh movies, All Or Nothing and Vera Drake, and now I hear rumours that she will be in a third picture which will go into rehearsals this autumn to organically explore the characters and story — as is Leigh's usual wont — and then film in the spring.
