To acknowledge the national rejoicing in celebration of her 50 years in showbusiness, Dame Shirley Bassey is graciously allowing the public to rummage through her wardrobe.
Just like the Princess of Wales, the singer is sending many of her spangly, strapless gowns to Christie's to be auctioned in aid of charity. But her wardrobes won't be empty for long. 'I'll soon fill them up again I'm a terrible shopaholic and hoarder,' she says.
She is not, however, ready to flog her fabulous collection of jewellery.
'That's why I live in Monte Carlo,' she purrs. 'I can wear my jewels on the streets there. No one would dare mug me.'
