THE love life of Olympic three-day eventer William Fox-Pitt - which, at times, sadly resembled Jilly Cooper's bonkbuster novel Riders - seems to have reached a happy ending.
The 6ft 4in rider lost his wife, Candida - known as Wiggy - to a fellow Olympian, New Zealander Andrew Nicholson, who left his wife, Jayne, and two children.
The adulterers famously indulged in steamy horseplay in their horseboxes, in a scandal that was the talk of the equestrian world for months.
The result was divorce and some awkward moments on the three-day eventing circuit.
Now, however, William, 34, is happily settling into married life with the Channel 4 racing presenter Alice Plunkett.
William tells me of his wedding: 'It was a very emotional day, Alice looked incredible.
'We have actually known each other since I was 18 - and she was 14.' So all's well that ends well . . . except, perhaps, for Alice's legion of male admirers - including C4's betting pundit, the quite barmy John McCririck, who lovingly refers to her as 'the saucy minx'.
