Dana O’Neil is a sports writer for CNN Sports, based in the U.S.

O’Neil has worked for more than 25 years as a sports writer, with previous stops at the Philadelphia Daily News, ESPN.com and The Athletic.

One of only two women to serve as president of the United States Basketball Writers Association, she is a 2021 inductee into the organization’s Hall of Fame. During the course of her career, she has received several writing awards and has been featured in The Best American Sports Writing.

O’Neil is a graduate of Penn State University and in 2024 was honored with the Bellisario College of Communications Outstanding Alumni Award.
