He also managed the breaking news and Cheat Sheet teams, which in 2018 won a Digiday Award for Best Email Newsletter. More recently, he has been an editor at NBC News and Vanity Fair.
Earlier in his career, Kirell was editor-in-chief of Mediaite after stints in production at Fox Business Network and ABC News.
Kirell is also a folk-rock singer-songwriter who has performed at live venues across the United States and Japan. He released his first album, “Torch Songs,” in 2023, which is available on all major streaming platforms.
