1972 Summit Series broadcast being preserved
Video of Canada's greatest hockey triumph was dubbed a national treasure on Monday.
CBC's broadcast of decisive Game 8 of the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and Russia was designated one of 12 Masterworks, ie. cherished broadcasts and recordings accorded special status.
The Masterworks label is bestowed by AV Preservation Trust of Canada, a non-profit, federally-funded trust which, partnered with CBC and the National Film Board, preserves and promotes poignant Canadian works for future generations.
Game 8 was highlighted by Paul Henderson's unforgettable game-winning and series-clinching goal with 34 seconds remaining.
Henderson was among the notables feted at a gala in Ottawa on Monday.
