54 Hours marks the 100th anniversary of the Newfoundland sealing disaster. Among many other things, it involves a bloody (and controversial) industry; the exploitative working conditions of pre-industrial capitalism; a sealing crew caught on the ice during a once-in-a-generation storm; fateful bad luck and casual stupidity and callous disregard; acts of perseverance and sacrifice that beggar description; and the deaths of 78 men over the course of a 54-hour ordeal.
A Call to Action communicates the passion of a man committed to fighting the social and economic injustice suffered by some of Toronto's poorest citizens and highlights Ontario Coalition Against Poverty's new tactics for bringing about change.
