Sigal Ratner-Arias

Deputy Editor, Billboard Español

Sigal Ratner-Arias, Deputy Editor of Billboard Español, played a pivotal role in the publication’s establishment and swift rise as the go-to music news source in Spanish in the U.S., Mexico, and beyond. Born in Venezuela and based in New York, she joined Billboard in the summer of 2022 after 20+ years of experience at the Associated Press, where she served as Spanish Entertainment Editor, covering major events including the Cannes Film Festival, the Oscars and the Latin Grammy Awards, while helping put many Latin artists on the global map. She has interviewed Latin music’s biggest stars, like Daddy Yankee, Shakira, Karol G, Bad Bunny, Ricky Martin and Juanes, and her work has appeared in hundreds of publications around the globe, both in English and Spanish. As a bilingual journalist at Billboard, she’s written in-depth articles including the first interview with the nonagenarian Latin Grammy winner Angela Alvarez (“How a 95-Year-Old Grandmother Nabbed a Latin Grammy Best New Artist Nomination”), a Lele Pons and Guaynaa cover story, a Q&A with Latin Grammy Person of the Year of 2023 Laura Pausini and more. Honored among LAMC and Amazon Music’s Wonder Women in Music of 2023, Sigal has been nominated for a GLAAD Award and an L.A. Press Club National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Award. She has hosted on-camera interviews for Billboard News with icons such as Juan Luis Guerra and Prince Royce and has moderated high-profile panels at Billboard Latin Music Week with Maluma, Fonseca and Thalia. Sigal is also the author of '64: Una Novela,' published by Penguin’s C.A. Press.
