Mark Robins applauds Stoke fansImage source, Shutterstock

Tom: What a signing Mark Robins has been at Stoke. For the first time since relegation we can look forward to each match. Feels like the brakes were let off today - is this an indication of future tactics? Do we dare to dream of a Wembley play-off final?

Nathan: Can’t describe how Mark Robins has changed us from last season to this season with hardly any money spent.

Stoke are up to third after their thumping 5-1 win today.

  3. 'Today, we were smarter than before'published at 18:25 GMT 1 November

    FT: Stoke 5-1 Bristol City

    Stoke City

Stoke City manager Mark Robins told BBC Radio Stoke:

"The way we set about things, the intent was there, but the quality was there.

"The understanding from the players, that interplay, the exchange of passes and movement and the intensity to go and do their jobs in and out of possession.

"They were unbeaten away from home this season before today, they're a good team. We've had probably one of the best performances at home since I came in.

"We talk about the incremental improvements and you could see today there was a vast improvement, not just incremental.

"The thing for us is to not worry about having to repeat that, because we've seen lots and lots of really good repetitive things in games where we've been really good and smart - today we were smarter than before."

  4. Back to the bad old days for Pompeypublished at 18:22 GMT 1 November

    FT: Birmingham 4-0 Portsmouth

    Andrew Moon
BBC Radio Solent commentator at St Andrew's

Oh dear. By far Portsmouth’s worst performance of the season and back to the bad old days of 12 months ago away from home. As starts go, the first 10 minutes couldn’t have been much worse. Pompey conceded a goal, saved a penalty and saw Birmingham miss two great opportunities. They improved as the half went on though only to be even worse in the second half. To concede three goals from set piece is a big concern. There was no real answers for Birmingham’s clever corner routines. This was a bold selection call from John Mousinho to leave out Colby Bishop and Conor Chaplin, even if neither are in great form. Missing Connor Ogilvie through illness was unfortunate, especially with back-up left-back Jacob Farrell still out injured. There’s now huge pressure on Wednesday’s home game with Wrexham. Pompey cannot repeat performances like the one at St Andrew's. There are other teams in the division who’ll put more than four past them if they play like that.

Hull City celebrate a goalImage source, Getty Images

Carl: Hull City moving into the play-offs is something none of us fans thought about this season! What a start to the season, totally unexpected, but totally deserved! Manager is doing a great job!

Alan: Hull are playing some very good football and now all the new players are starting to gel going from strength to strength the sky's the limit and why not automatic promotion?

The Tigers only avoided relegation to League One on goal difference last season.

After their win over Norwich, Hull rose into the top six but have since been pushed down to seventh following results elsewhere.

Still, they are only just outside on goal difference and in the form they are in, don't be too surprised if that changes before next weekend.

Preston North End beat Southampton 2-0 in the Championship

Preston are into the top six with their win at Southampton.

Head coach Paul Heckingbottom has told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"I think if you could bottle that and take it with you as an away performance we'd do that.

"We can be better with the ball, we know that, but we were terrific, created good chances and were very good without the ball particularly in the second half.

"We got a lot of things right, Southampton have got good players and they can have a lot of the ball but where we let them have possession was very good and it takes a lot of work and discipline for the players to execute that and they were excellent."

  7. 'We got the result we deserved'published at 18:15 GMT 1 November

Manager Stéphan speaks with BBC's Sophie Evans after their 4-1 loss at home to Ipswich

QPR have won just three of their past 12 league games at home.

Boss Julien Stephan has been speaking to BBC Radio London after their 4-1 home defeat by Ipswich:

"It's a very disappointing result but at the end of the game you have the result you deserve.

"For 60 minutes it wasn't too bad - we had a great reaction to the first goal we conceded but the second came too quickly after the start of the second half.

"There's a lot of things to learn from this game and it's important to focus on the next one against Southampton."

    Derby County

Derby County boss John Eustace told BBC Radio Derby:

“It was a really good performance from the lads. They were fantastic and their attitude from the first minute was very good.

“You can see that we are building and growing in the right way."

On Carlton Morris and his hat-trick: "Since he has come in, he has been exceptional. He is a top professional and real mentor to the rest of the group.

“He is a top leader and top player. At 29 we have got a real top performer and the recruitment in the summer to get him was exceptional.

"He has got a real big part to play from now until the end of the season."

  9. Rams did not have to work for goals - Wilderpublished at 18:09 GMT 1 November

    FT: Sheff Utd 1-3 Derby

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield:

“We are killing ourselves. We get in at half-time and the game was going to be the game we thought – counter-attack, Carlton Morris, into Carlton Morris, off Carlton Morris.

“That is the way they play, and it’s no criticism because I’d rather be their manager tonight than ours.

“They have not really had to work hard for all three of their goals. And we never get gifts like that - a free header inside the six-yard box, we never get that clear-cut chance that they got [for Morris' second] and it would be nice to get something regarding the penalty decision that they got.”

  10. 'It's a sore one'published at 18:05 GMT 1 November

    FT: Oxford 2-2 Millwall

    Media caption,

Millwall boss Neil speaks with BBC's Mark Church after Oxford United's late equaliser

Millwall are fourth in the Championship after their 2-2 draw at Oxford.

But for a 96th minute equaliser from Oxford they would be second.

Lions boss Alex Neil has told BBC Radio London:

"I don't think we deserved to lose any points - I thought we were the better team.

"We're still unbeaten away from home, it's another point.

"If we don't play well today and get a point we'd probably go away quite satisfied but because of the nature of the match and the fact we deserved to win it feels like a defeat.

"I'm not thinking about the table but there's no getting away from that today it's a sore one and the manner in which it happened we didn't deserve it but we have to see out those moments."

  11. 'It would have been harsh to lose'published at 18:02 GMT 1 November

    FT: Oxford 2-2 Millwall

    Oxford United

Oxford equalised in the 96th minute through Przemyslaw Placheta to snatch a point at home to Millwall.

Gary Rowett has told BBC Radio Oxford:

"It was a nice way to end the game - we haven't had too many of those.

"I think it's the first time this season a sub has come on for us and scored a goal which in some ways is a poor impact from the bench for us overall but it was nice to get it in a game like this.

"It was a competitive game - you can see why Millwall are where they are because they can mix it up.

"We kept going - I'm pleased with how we finished the game and it would have been harsh to have lost."

  12. Saints 'naive' in latest defeat - Stillpublished at 17:58 GMT 1 November

    FT: Southampton 0-2 Preston

    Southampton

Under pressure Saints boss Will Still told BBC Radio Solent he felt his side were "naive" and conceded poor goals as they fell to a 2-0 home defeat.

It is a third consecutive loss and leaves Southampton in 21st place.

"We have bags and bags of talent in the dressing room but hard work beat talent today and we didn’t do enough to keep the ball out of our net.

"I know how it looks and how football works, as long as I'm here and people give me the opportunity to do so I will fight."

  13. A season record-equalling Saturdaypublished at 17:54 GMT 1 November

    Championship

    Carlton MorrisImage source, Shutterstock

It's been a goal scoring BONANZA today!

We've had 39 goals across the Championship this afternoon, equalling the opening Saturday of the season for the most scored this campaign on a single matchday.

Only West Bromwich Albion v Sheffield Wednesday failed to provide goals in today's matches but we won't hold it against them. (Although, their fans might!)

Add in Wrexham's 3-2 conquer over Coventry yesterday and it's been quite the weekend - with three sets of hat-tricks no less (Wrexham's Kieffer Moore, Derby County's Carlton Morris and Stoke City's Divin Mubama).

  14. 'We were not sharp enough for this level'published at 17:51 GMT 1 November

    FT: Stoke 5-1 Bristol City

    Bristol City

    Gerhard StruberImage source, Shutterstock

Bristol City head coach Gerhard Struber told BBC Radio Bristol:

"This is the Championship and I think the Championship shows us, and especially Stoke City today showed us, a face where we had a lot of problems.

"It's a really good learning point and a really good realisation of what's going on in this league when you're not on the highest level.

"We were not ready in our synchronised pressing, we were not ready to be sharp in transition and I think they deserved the victory on this level.

"We were not sharp enough for this level and the good thing is we have to learn, we have to reflect, and we have to be very honest with ourselves.

"Everything that can go worst went worst today, but Tuesday night is waiting and we have to do everything right now that we bounce back on Tuesday night with our typical face."

  15. 'It was as complete a performance as we've had all season'published at 17:47 GMT 1 November

    FT: Birmingham 4-0 Portsmouth

    Birmingham City

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies told BBC Radio WM:

“I was really looking forward to the match. I was hoping they could bring it all together and make a quick start.

"For us, it wasn't just a case of focus or thinking we have to win; it was about how we win and how we play. Focusing on that process and making a quick, aggressive start.

"It was as complete a performance as we've put together this season, and I'm really pleased for the players.”

  16. 'We played some good stuff'published at 17:44 GMT 1 November

    FT: QPR 1-4 Ipswich

Ipswich boss Kieran McKennaImage source, Shuttershock

Ipswich recorded their first away league win since April with their 4-1 victory at QPR.

It move them into the top 10, three points short of the top six.

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna has been speaking to BBC Radio Suffolk:

"A good win for us, two brilliant team goals and two brilliant individual goals at a big moment. Good experience for the team to go through.

"We had a good start and probably didn't build on it enough. But we stuck in and we knew we could build in the second half. Once we got the goals we played some really good stuff.

"Marcelino (Nunez) is a really good set piece taker. He practices a lot, as much as I've seen anyone practice so he deserves his rewards.

"The subs came on with good energy, we defended well and look a threat."

Greig: Liam Manning does not know what he is doing - period! Blame it on whatever - he is in charge and has zero tactical capability! Looking forward to the reset in League One now

Gerhard: Too many Norwich players let go/sold during the summer. Those brought in are no good. Only Kenny McLean and Josh Sargent seem to have the heart. Others are mediocre and that is polite!

Jason: I've always liked the look of League One anyway...

The Canaries have lost all seven of their home games this season under Manning who took over in the summer.

They end the weekend four points adrift of safety.

    Southampton

Southampton are just three points above the relegation zone after defeat by Preston today.

We'll bring you something from head coach Will Still shortly as he has just faced the media.

Skipper Adam Armstrong has told BBC Radio Solent:

"It's not good enough - we have spells in the game but we're not doing it.

"We've had a few honest conversations this week but it's two sloppy goals."

On the pressure mounting on boss Still:

"But the pressure should be on us to perform - we're just not doing it right now, this league is crazy and we have to use all the experience we've got to get out of this."

Blackburn Rovers beat Leicester City 2-0 in the Championship

Blackburn Rovers boss Valerien Ismael speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire:

"Today is a big win. A statement in their performance, especially in the second-half.

"A clean sheet away at Leicester is exactly what you needed, what you expected, what you are dreaming of - to have that statement win is something we can build on with the players, give us that confidence.

"This is the win were missing at the beginning of the season. We had this win against Ipswich. The same type of win so we know at the end what's happened."

    Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield:

"I am very satisfied. We have spoken a lot this week about who we want to be across 95 minutes and who we don't want to be.

"From the first moment today, we had a difficult beginning, we played a strong first half. It is a difficult place to play and a strong opponent.

"It is the first time I felt we were where we want to be defensively over 95 minutes. There are things to work on offensively we want to work on.

"Sean [Fusire] was fantastic today, how he always jumped and won his duels. They started to play behind him but he won all his running duels and was calm on the ball. Harry [Amass] had a really strong beginning, big respect to him."
