GoogleA 70-year-old man has died after a light aeroplane crash-landed at an airfield near Sherburn in Elmet.
Emergency services were called to Sherburn Aero Club just before 13:00 GMT, North Yorkshire Police said.
The small plane crashed on the runway and the pilot, who was from the Leeds area, was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was believed to be flying alone, the force added.
Officers were guarding the scene and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) had been made aware.
A spokesperson from Sherburn Aero Club confirmed the airfield had been closed.
The AAIB said it was "in the process of deploying a team to begin investigations".
