Seven men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man in his 40s died.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police found the victim seriously injured on Bristol's Stapleton Road at about 22:55 GMT on Monday. He died in hospital on Tuesday morning.

The force said 10 minutes before the man was found, a group of seven men – some of whom were believed to be in possession of bladed weapons – were arrested by officers.

The men, aged between 18 and 29, were re-arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

A force spokesperson said a forensic post-mortem will take place later, adding: "The man's next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this devastating time."

Police cordons remain in place on Stapleton Road and George Jones Park while investigations continue.

Supt Deepak Kenth said no stone would be left unturned in their efforts to identify those responsible

Supt Deepak Kenth urged anyone with information, however inconsequential, to call police.

"This murder enquiry is in its early stages, and we will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to identify the person, or persons, responsible.

"Seven arrests were made last night prior to the man's death, and those people will be questioned over the coming hours as we build up a comprehensive picture of what happened.

"We know the community will be shocked and greatly upset to learn of this tragedy and we will have extra officers in the area to provide reassurance over the coming days," he added.
