Weekend A12 closure for Sizewell C works

A major road in Suffolk is due to be closed over the weekend for improvement work linked to the construction of Sizewell C nuclear power station.

A small section of the A12, south of the A1094 junction for Aldeburgh at Friday Street, will close at 20:00 GMT on Friday until 05:00 on Monday.

The official diversion route, external asks motorists to use major A-roads to avoid rural routes becoming congested, but it could add nearly 100 miles to journeys.

Sizewell C said work would include drainage improvements, kerb installation and tarmacking to support the construction of a new roundabout.

The planned diversion route asks drivers to go via the A146, A143 and A14.

Sizewell C apologised for "any disruption caused by the temporary closure".

Further work is taking place over three weeks on the A12 northbound carriageway just north of the Friday Street junction, external, running overnight from 20:00 until 05:00.
