Brassed off

Scoring an own goal is never fun for a footballer but spare a thought for Bury’s Chris Brass. His howler against Darlington on Saturday left him with a badly bruised nose (and ego) but also as a figure of worldwide fun.

Brass scored what could be argued as being the worst own goal ever against the Quakers. What looked like an easy clearance for the centre-back soon turned into a nightmare as he went to hook a cross over his shoulder to safety.

The ball cannoned off his foot and into his face, nearly breaking his nose and rebounding past goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to give Darlo the lead. It was a feat of such bad luck that the most skilful of players would struggle to copy it even if they tried all day!

Thankfully for Brass, the Shakers fought back and won the clash 3-2. If they hadn't, his misery could well have been compounded by his goal sending Bury down and out of the Football League - so there is a silver lining!

However, a bad day at the office for the defender has become something worse, as a clip of his mistake has been circulated on the Internet.

So is it the worst own goal ever? Have a watch of the video, if you’ve not seen it, and then have your say. We can’t think of a worse one, but you might be able to!
