NAGAKUTE, Aichi Prefecture--A Citroen 2CV, a French classic car beloved by anime maestro Hayao Miyazaki, is on display at Ghibli Park here, which features attractions inspired by Studio Ghibli Inc.'s films.
The light gray vehicle sits on the floor under the Central Stairs inside the indoor Ghibli's Grand Warehouse area.
It still has a sticker for elderly drivers displayed on the front and the rear end of the car, with a traffic safety charm also placed on the back.
According to prefectural officials, the director bought his first Citroen 2CV about 60 years ago to take his eldest son, Goro, to and from a nursery school.
Miyazaki grew so fond of the car that he kept driving 2CVs for many years.
The vehicle is also featured in his film "Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro."
The director stopped driving the car after he reached an elderly age, and it had been kept in the garage at his home.
"The Miyazaki family no longer uses the 2CV, but it holds a lot of memories," Goro, who serves as supervisor for the theme park and is himself a director, said in a comment. "I hope it will be cherished at Ghibli Park for years to come."
Reservations are necessary to enter the park.
