A wide plaza surrounded by buildings, two featuring large outlined profiles, a lone pedestrian, trees in the background, and a small blue car on the road.
Coco Fusco, La plaza vacía (The Empty Plaza), 2012, digital video, color, sound, 12 minutes.

Curated by Susanna V. Temkin and Rodrigo Moura

Remarkably, this will be the much-lauded Cuban American artist and writer Coco Fusco’s first US survey. For the past three decades, the New York–based Fusco has deployed performance, photography, and video, among other media—often with a biting satiric edge—to dissect cultural and racial stereotypes and falsities. The exhibition borrows its title from a recently published Thames & Hudson monograph on the artist, carrying articles by Fusco and various luminaries in the field—essential reading for a full appreciation of the work of this singular artist and thinker.
