    Despite having the clear appeal of breakthrough singles Murder On The Dancefloor and Get Over You, Sophie Ellis Bextor manages to produce an album with a clear difference between Singles and Fillers.

    The original eight tracks are all very good and all capture the quirky pop that Murder On The Dancefloor suggests. Take Me Home is a definite step up from Cher's original and Move This Mountain is a very motivational song. The highlight for me however is Sparkle which is often slated for being formulaic filler but I think the use of harmonies and bizarre keyboard lines really make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck in a good way.

    It's the second half of the album, the additional tracks, that don't quite fit in. They all sound roughly the same and move at a very slow pace. This is a disappointment after the albums strong first half. Even Everything Falls Into Place, which has a pace opening, manages to dull itself after a few bars. The omission of Groovejet (if This AIn't Love) is also a disappointment and the live version almost feels like an apology from the record label. Either way at such a low price it is a worthy buy even if 6 of the tracks you won't ever listen to!

    For any Sophie Ellis-Bextor fan, this is "the" album to have - (nearly) all the iconic songs that made her career: Murder on the dance floor, take me home etc. continue to offer a timeless classical quality, and even 15-odd years after it's release, it stands as testament to the vocal talents of SEB that this album, to some extent, continues to hold appeal.

    Don't be fooled by the volume of songs offered: Unfortunately, past track 9, it's essentially a case of "quantity over quality" - forgettable, low-energy and frankly dull filler songs that add nothing to the album. The addition of the live version of groovejet as the final track does not hold the latter half of the album up, SEB's vocals being drowned out by poor recording and audience cheering. In my opinion the album should be re-released, with the excellent "yes sir, I can boogie" replacing one of the poor "B side" tracks of the latter part of the album.

    However, for a very reasonable price you still get a decent selection of songs: Somewhat dated, unsurprisingly, but the classics are still worth listening to. There are a few hidden gems such as "move this mountain" and also some surprises - "The universe is you" and "sparkle" sounded respectively like tracks straight off Trip the light fantastic and make a scene. Clearly, as a debut album SEB still had a lot of artistic maturity to achieve but, despite being a bit aged, I'd still recommend this album.
