This study aimed to examine the personal response approach in the context of poetry analysis and sought to identify the phases the responses of the students fall and the possible influencing factors in their responses. Thirty-five (35) grade 10 students of Mary Help of Christians College took part in this study. The qualitative research design was used for this study. The data were gathered by conducting three synchronous sessions of poetry lessons applying the personal response approach. The sessions were recorded, and the students' responses to poetry analysis, both verbal and written, were transcribed as primary data.
The researcher applied the personal response approach in discussing the following poems: ?I remember, I remember? by Thomas Hood; ?The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost?, and ?Sonnet 116? by William Shakespeare, and obtained the responses of the students to the analysis questions during the poetry lessons. The responses were qualitatively analyzed using the phases of the developmental model by Thomson (1987) presented in Spirovska (2019). The responses were categorized in the phases reached: literal, empathy, analogy, reflection, evaluation, and recognition. One hundred forty-six responses were gathered from the analysis of three poetries used.
The data revealed that students were able to provide responses the analysis question of the text until the sixth phase of the developmental model of the personal response approach. using PRA creates an opportunity for the student to further understand the text by connecting their experiences, emotions, reflections, realization, and role in the reading process. With this, students improve their literary skills and reading comprehension for they understand better the given poetry. PRA in this regard, improves the pedagogy of poetry teaching by letting the students have a more personal connection to the text to understand the essence of literature, as well as to improve understanding of others.
In addition, influencing factors were identified namely linguistic knowledge, emotion and subject matter, experience, reflective ability, values and beliefs, and role awareness. These factors can be considered in order to assist students to have deeper understanding of the text.
The study recommends that the conclusions generative be investigated. To improve poetry analysis using the approach teachers are encouraged to use prompt responses that would guide students to a clearer understanding of the text. They may also consider the influencing factors identified in the current study in selecting appropriate literature for the students. For future researchers that would dwell in a similar study, it is recommended to gather both qualitative and quantitative data to compare and statistically validate the students' understanding of poetry analysis. As well as to conduct the study measuring the students' perception, attitudes, and metric scores in the implementation of the personal response approach to poetry analysis.

The patients studied included 112 ALL survivors (84 patients who had received chemotherapy only, 28 patients who had received chemotherapy and irradiation; 63 males, 49 females; mean age ± standard deviation, 4.1 yrs ± 2.6 yrs at diagnosis; mean ± standard deviation yrs since diagnosis, 6.0 ± 3.5 yrs), and 33 healthy siblings who participated as a control group. Neurocognitive tests of attention, intelligence, and academic achievement were performed; and magnetic resonance images were obtained and subsequently were segmented to yield tissue volume measurements. Comparisons of neurocognitive measures and tissue volumes between groups were performed, and the correlations between volumes and neurocognitive performance measures were assessed. RESULTS-Most performance measures demonstrated statistically significant differences from the normative test scores, but only attention measures exceeded 1.0 standard deviation from normal.

Football players in the transition from junior-to-senior are usually involved in dual careers, combining school and football – a process that makes them dependent on a holistic talent-development journey. In classical theory, teeth of vertebrate dentitions evolved from co-option of external skin denticles into the oral cavity. This hypothesis predicts that ordered tooth arrangement and regulated replacement in the oral dentition were also derived from skin denticles. The fossil batoid ray Schizorhiza stromeri (Chondrichthyes; Cretaceous) provides a test of this theory. Schizorhiza preserves an extended cartilaginous rostrum with closely spaced, alternating saw-teeth, different from sawfish and sawsharks today. Multiple replacement teeth reveal unique new data from micro-CT scanning, showing how the ‘cone-in-cone’ series of ordered saw-teeth sets arrange themselves developmentally, to become enclosed by the roots of pre-existing saw-teeth. At the rostrum tip, newly developing saw-teeth are present, as mineralized crown tips within a vascular, cartilaginous furrow; these reorient via two 90° rotations then relocate laterally between previously formed roots. Background: Co-occurring borderline personality disorder (BPD) features have a marked impact on treatment of patients with mood disorders. Overall, high neuroticism, childhood traumatic experiences (TEs) and insecure attachment are plausible aetiological factors for BPD. However, their relationship with BPD features specifically among patients with mood disorders remains unclear. We investigated these relationships among unipolar and bipolar mood disorder patients. Methods: As part of the Helsinki University Psychiatric Consortium study, the McLean Screening Instrument (MSI), the Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised (ECR-R), the Short Five (S5) and the Trauma and Distress Scale (TADS) were filled in by patients with mood disorders (n=282) in psychiatric care. Correlation coefficients between total scores of scales and their dimensions were estimated, and multivariate regression (MRA) and mediation analyses were conducted. Results: Spearman's correlations were strong (rho=0.58; p < 0.001) between total scores of MSI and S5 Neuroticism and moderate (rho=0.42; p < 0.001) between MSI and TADS as well as between MSI and ECR-R Attachment Anxiety. In MRA, young age, S5 Neuroticism and TADS predicted scores of MSI (p < 0.001). ECR-R Attachment Anxiety mediated 33% (CI=17-53%) of the relationships between TADS and MSI. Limitations: Cross-sectional questionnaire study. Conclusions: We found moderately strong correlations between self-reported BPD features and concurrent high neuroticism, reported childhood traumatic experiences and Attachment Anxiety also among patients with mood disorders. Independent predictors for BPD features include young age, frequency of childhood traumatic experiences and high neuroticism. Insecure attachment may partially mediate the relationship between childhood traumatic experiences and borderline features among mood disorder patients. Gunderson, 2009; Lieb et al., 2004). Current multifactorial aetiological models highlight the interactions of psychosocial, genetic and neurobiological factors in the pathogenesis of BPD (Leichsenring et al., 2011). Since the official establishment of the Institute of China Studies at the University of Malaya on 5th December 2003, forging collaborative ties with the international academic community has always been a top prioritized focus to accomplish the institute’s major objective to be an academic research organization dedicated to the advancement of scholarship on China studies, in particular contemporary China’s political, economic and social development and their implications in the regional and global contexts. In 2009, Dario Gaggio, Mary Gallagher, Douglas Northrop and I organized a conference in which we invited colleagues from across the University of Michigan and elsewhere to reflect on how ends of decades, from 1789 through 2009, moved terms like Brinks, Cusps, and Perceptions of Possibility. This wasn't "numerological", but rather inspirational for extending our imagination of anniversaries guiding reflection. We didn't organize this beyond the event, but so many of the conversations we had during that conference still inspire me today.
