Play Behavior

The origins of play remain a profound puzzle in animal evolution. Play is often characterised as a seemingly non-functional behaviour that confers little survival or reproductive benefit. This characteristic makes the evolution of play appear paradoxical under Darwinian principles, which posit that traits must be beneficial to be selected. Given that the adaptive benefits are unclear even for the well-established forms of play in extant animals, it seems improbable that an incipient form of play in the earliest stages of evolution emerged due to a decisive selective advantage. The conventional view that has gained traction suggests that play evolved not as an adaptive trait but as a by-product of energetic, ontogenetic, ecological, and psychological facilitating factors. Building upon previous empirical and theoretical studies, this review discusses the evolutionary relationship between play and exploration. More specifically, it argues that relying on the classification dividing exploration into intrinsic and extrinsic types can help us articulate both the evolutionary and mechanistic continuities and discontinuities between play and exploration. Based on this distinction, this article proposes the following hypothesis: play originally evolved as a byproduct of curiosity-motivated intrinsic exploration. This hypothesis is supported by recent empirical evidence indicating that play may have evolved by co-opting some of the mechanisms of curiosity, including (i) the commonality between stimuli that elicit curiosity and those that elicit play, and (ii) the shared neural basis of curiosity and play involving the reward and executive control systems. I also discuss new testable predictions derived from this hypothesis and outline future research directions, including comparative phylogenetic studies, eco-sociological analyses, and psycho-behavioural approaches.

During play fighting, animals make a variety of movements, some of which seem unrelated to the ongoing actions of the partner. Among such movements are the jumps and rotations reported in many species of Old World monkeys. In the present study, videotaped sequences of jumps and rotations performed by juvenile vervet monkeys were analyzed. Using the Eshkol-Wachman Movement Notation (EWMN) the sequences were described frame-by-frame revealing that about 82% of the jumps and rotations were correlated with the movements performed by the partner, consistent with the view that these movements are used as tactics of attack and defense. The majority of the remaining 18% occurred in contexts in which the performer solicited playful attacks from the partner. A small number of the rest were performed in a manner consistent with the movements being imposed by the performer to increase the difficulty in contacting the partner. The same distribution was present in both captive and free-living monkeys. Thus the analyses show that while most jumps were combat-related, these movements can occur in a variety of functional contexts.

The purpose of this study is to develop science process skills scale for 60-72 months old children. For scale development study, 53 items generated by the researcher were investigated by 3 teachers and 4 academicians and then the items were evaluated by utilizing Lawshe's technique. The scale was applied to 265 children aged 60-72 months who attend kindergartens in Istanbul city, districts of Kadıkoy, Besiktas, Atasehir and Umraniye in 2012-2013 school year. For construct validity, the factor structure of the scale was examined and by using varimax rotation technique, an analysis was conducted to decide whether the data was suitable for factor analysis. KMO and Barlett's tests were used for this reason and the test result was found as .80. For the analysis regarding reliability of the scale, first Kuder Richardson coefficient was calculated. For the test-retest reliability of the scale, the scale was applied to 45 students for 3 weeks apart and the correlation between the scores was calculated. According to this, it was found that value of the scale was .90 at the first factor, .86 at the second factor, .82 at the third factor, .75 for the fourth factor and .84 for entire scale. It was also found that test-retest reliability was .96 at the first factor, .87 at the second factor, .64 at the third factor, .78 for the fourth factor and .89 for entire scale.

During early life, animals are sensitive to environmental events that may lead to short-term and long-lasting changes in their neurobiology and behavior, which could be related to increased risk for psychopathology. Neonatal handling is an experimental intervention in the mother-infant relationship. Based on previous studies, it is known to decrease rat pups' preference for maternal cues. Handling also reduces social, sexual, and fear behavior in adult animals, which is related to underlying neuroendocrine alterations. One prominent feature of adolescence is the high frequency of social behaviors such as play that appear to be necessary for proper socioemotional development. The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of repeatedly handling pups on social play behavior during the neonatal period in juvenile Wistar rats. We found that handling consistently decreased pouncing, wrestling, and chasing play behavior on postnatal days (PND) 25, 30, and 35 compared with non-handled juveniles. As expected, sex differences were also found. Consistent with previous studies in infant and adult rats, the neonatal handling procedure also reduced affiliative behaviors in juvenile animals. The precise mechanisms by which this early intervention leads to these alterations in offspring remain to be determined, but the cumulative effects of briefly disrupting the mother-infant relationship that caused the neonatal handling may be one possible explanation.

Introduction. Role play is the leading activity of the preschool period, in which the key development takes
place. However, the specifics of modern childhood leads to a decrease in the time for the implementation
of free play. Therefore, the search for means to support role play is an important task for the scientific
community and the education system. The purpose of this study was to identify current trends in the play
behavior of preschoolers, as well as to study the relationship of the main indicators of children's mental
development with the play behavior and attitudes of their parents to role play.
Materials and methods. The study involved 596 children aged 5-6 years and their parents (from 23
years to 51 years). Sociometric status, understanding of emotions, executive functions and nonverbal
intelligence were considered as indicators of children’s mental development. Data on children's play
behavior and parents' attitudes towards play were obtained using a questionnaire containing three blocks
of questions: socio-economic block, questions about the play behavior of preschoolers, questions about
parents' attitude to free children's play.
Results and discussion. The results of the study indicated a relatively low level of development of the play
of modern preschoolers: according to the observations of parents, only every fifth child is deeply immersed
in the game plot, about 15% of children do not seek to play at all. The data indicated that most parents do
not consider it necessary to allocate enough time for free play. More than 40% of parents consider play as
a "useless" activity, and more than 80% give priority to cognitive activities, for example, joint reading. At
the same time, significant links of children's play behavior with the sociometric status of a child in a group,
the ability to understand emotions, visual working memory, cognitive flexibility, information processing
speed and nonverbal intelligence were recorded.
Conclusion. The results of the study can be used to develop recommendations to support free play, as
well as for scientific purposes to analyze the specifics of modern childhood.

The purpose of the study is to reveal the reasons for young children to like and dislike playing with their friends. There were two groups in the study. The first group included 147 preschool children who were in the age group of 5-6 years and were living in Turkey. The second group included 60 preschool children who were in the age group of 5-6 years and were living in the North Cyprus. Interview method was used as data collection tool. In the sociometry technique-based method, the researcher asked the children four questions in a quiet room outside the classroom. According to the results, young children attach importance to social skills, mutual sharing, spending time outside plays and relationships based on kindness and love in their peer relationships and they dislike rude, bullying and disorderly behaviors. While the children in the study groups expressed their playmate choices, they stated more criteria as their reasons to dislike than their reasons to like, which is noteworthy in terms of revealing problems young children faced in their peer relationships.

Studying play behavior in octopuses is an important step toward understanding the phylogenetic origins and function of play as well as the cognitive abilities of invertebrates. Fourteen Octopus vulgaris (7 subadults and 7 adults) were presented 2 Lego objects and 2 different food items on 7 consecutive days under 2 different levels of food deprivation. Nine subjects showed play-like behavior with the Lego objects. There was no significant difference in play-like behavior corresponding to food deprivation, age, and sex of the octopuses. The sequence of behaviors, from exploration to play-like behavior, had a significant influence on the establishment of play-like behavior, as it occurred mostly on Days 3-6 of the 7-day experiment. The pattern of development of play-like activities after a period of exploration and habituation in this study agrees with the hypothesis that object play follows object exploration. A homologous origin of this behavioral trait in vertebrates and invertebrates is highly unlikely, as the last common ancestor might not have had the cognitive capacity to possess this trait.

In this study, the differentiation status of preschool children's adaptation to school according to their relationship with teachers was examined. The study participants consisted of 326 children aged 60-72 months and 21 preschool teachers in different preschool educational institutions affiliated to the Provincial Directorate of National Education in Konya, Turkey. The School Adaptation Teacher Assessment Scale and Teacher-Student Relationship Scale were utilized to collect the research data. In the evaluation of the research data, firstly, teacher-child relationship scores were divided into groups for cluster analysis: conflictual/non-conflictual, dependent/ independent, and close/distant teacher-child relationship. The data gathered were analyzed using the independent-samples t-test. The results of the study revealed that the level of school adaptation of the children who had close, non-conflictual, and independent relationships with their teachers differed significantly from that of children who had distant, conflictual, and dependent relationships with their teachers. Positive teacher-child relationships reflected positively on the level of the child's school adaptation level. Teachers should establish close relationships with children in order to facilitate their adaptation to the school in the preschool period.

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) had widespread use in the United States in commercial manufacturing in the United States until the late 1970s. Even though they were banned, measurable amounts can still be found in the environment and food sources. PCB has known effects on altering hormone development and behavior in the species Rattus norvegicus. To determine the most crucial developmental time of exposure to PCB in Sprague-Dawley rat pups, rat pups were exposed to PCB at differing weeks of either gestation period or the first postnatal week. Behavioral tests were performed for the different rat pups, as well as blood serum was analyzed for the concentration of thyroid hormone. This paper presents data for PCB exposed pups that were tested for play behavior on PND 22. Statistical tests were used to determine the week of PCB exposure with the greatest effects on the rat pups. The results are that exposure of PCB led to a significant increase in the play behavior of the pups. The dorsal contact play behavior was significantly altered by PCB, while the pin behavior was not significantly altered. The critical window for PCB exposure was not identified, but it can be seen that PCB alters dorsal contact behavior in exposed rat pups.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, bilgisayar sunumlarına yönelik görüşlerin tespit edilmesini sağlayacak geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçeğin geliştirilmesidir. Bu amaçla öncelikle madde havuzu (82 madde) oluşturulmuştur. Sonrasında konu uzmanlarının görüşlerinden yola çıkarak yüzey ve kapsam geçerlik analizleri yapılmıştır. Analizler sonrası kalan 58 madde Likert tipinde 5'li değerlendirmeye sahip deneme formu şeklinde hazırlanarak toplam 366 öğretmen adayına uygulanmıştır. Uygulamanın sonunda elde edilen verilerin analizinde SPSS 20.0 istatistik programından yararlanılmıştır. Ölçekteki her bir maddenin ölçme gücü madde-toplam korelasyonu bakılarak yapılmış, düşük güvenirliğe sahip 24 madde ölçekten çıkarılmıştır. Ölçeğin yapı geçerliğini belirlemek amacıyla yapılan açımlayıcı faktör analizi sonucunda toplam varyansın %41.324'ini açıklayan ve anlamlı olarak kabul edilen 3 faktörlü, 29 maddeden oluşan bir yapı elde edilmiştir. Ölçeğin genelinden elde edilen Cronbach Alpha iç tutarlık katsayısı 0,897 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Bu haliyle ölçeğin yüksek derecede güvenilir olduğu söylenebilir.

Mink are potentially ideal for investigating the functions of play: deleterious effects of early social isolation suggest a crucial developmental role for play; and huge numbers of highly playful juvenile subjects can be studied on farms. We collected descriptive data on 186 pairs from 93 litters, half provided with play-eliciting environmental enrichment objects in their home cages, to test three hypotheses: (1) play frequency is subject to litter effects; (2) relative playfulness is stable over time; (3) play sub-types share a single, common motivational basis. We found weak litter effects that were driven by stronger litter effects on general activity, and weakly stable individual differences in both total and rough-and-tumble play. The sample group of the study consisted of 95 children aged 5 years (49 (51.6%) girls; 46 (48.4%) boys) receiving education at kindergartens in Turkey. The data required for the study were obtained from children and teachers. 'The Scale of Emotion Regulation Strategies', 'The Social Skills Evaluation Scale', 'The Picture Sociometry Scale', 'Child Behaviour Scale', and 'The Personal Information Form' were used. The results revealed that the emotional regulation strategies had predictive effects on the levels of coping with peer pressure, aggressiveness, and social preference.

EnglishThe aim of the study is to investigate the predictive effect of fathers’ supporting development tasks of their children on their self-perception, level of being liked by their peers and their prosocial behaviours. The sample group of this study conducted by the correlational survey model consisted of 127 father and 127 children in the age group of 5-6 years attending preschool education in Denizli province, Turkey. In the study, the data were collected with the help of Scale of Supporting Development tasks, Ladd and Profilet Child Behaviour Scale-Prosocial Behaviour Subscale, Peer Rating based Sociometric Technique, and Self-Perception Profile for Young Children. According to the results of the study, fathers’ supporting development tasks of their children predicted the children’s self-perception, the level of being liked by their peers, and their prosocial behaviour levels in a statistically significant way (p< 0.01).

In parks, ornamental waters of easy access and populated with animals are quite attractive to children and yet might hide threats to human health. The present work focuses on the microbiota of the ornamental waters of a Lisboa park, characterized during 2015. The results show a dynamic microbiota integrating human pathogens such as Klebsiella pneumoniae, Aeromonas spp. and Enterobacter spp., and also antibiotic resistant bacteria. K. pneumoniae and Aeromonas spp. were present as planktonic and biofilm organized bacteria. In vitro K. pneumoniae and Aeromonas spp. showed an enhanced ability to assemble biofilm at 25 °C than at 37 °C. Bacteria recovered from biofilm samples showed an increased antibiotic resistance compared to the respective planktonic counterparts.

Psikolojik dayanıklılık insanın stres ve zorluklarla başa çıkma kapasitesidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı küçük çocukların psikolojik dayanıklılık düzeylerinin çocukların oyun davranışları üzerindeki yordayıcı etkisini belirlemektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda çalışma 51-71 aylık (M=68.10; SS=4.63) 677 (K: 306; E:371) çocuk ile yürütülmüştür. Nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden ilişkisel tarama modelinde gerçekleştirilen araştırma, kolay ulaşılabilir örnekleme yöntemi kullanılarak ulaşılan 677 çocukla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ego Sağlamlığı Ölçeği ve Okul Öncesi Oyun Davranışları Ölçeği kullanılarak elde edilen veriler, çocukların psikolojik dayanıklılık düzeylerinin çocukların oyun davranışları üzerindeki etkisini belirlemek amacıyla basit doğrusal regresyon analizi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Çocuk Gelişimi Kongresinde bildiri olarak sunulmuştur.Bu araştırmada, 36-72 aylık çocukların oyun etkinliklerinde akranları ile kurdukları etkileşimlerini ve bu etkileşimlerde ortaya çıkan sorunlarda öğretmenlerin müdahalelerini incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma temel nitel araştırma deseninde tasarlanmıştır. Çalışma grubunu 58 çocuk ve bu çocukların 4 okul öncesi öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri, 4 okul öncesi eğitim sınıfındaki öğretmenlere ve bu öğretmenlerin sınıflarındaki çocuklara yönelik gerçekleştirilen gözlemler ile toplanmıştır. Haftada 2 gün olmak üzere 8 hafta boyunca toplam 16 saatlik gözlemler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma temel nitel araştırma deseninde tasarlanmıştır. Çalışma grubunu 58 çocuk ve bu çocukların 4 okul öncesi öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri, 4 okul öncesi eğitim sınıfındaki öğretmenlere ve bu öğretmenlerin sınıflarındaki çocuklara yönelik gerçekleştirilen gözlemler ile toplanmıştır. Oyunlarda işbirlikçi oyun davranışları sıklıkla gözlemlenmiştir. Bununla birlikte sınıfta özel gereksinimli çocuğun olması, çocuklar arasındaki akran etkileşimlerinin dinamiklerini farklılaştırmaktadır ve son olarak öğretmenlerin ortaya çıkan sorunlara yönelik müdahalelerinin çocuklara aralarındaki problemi çözdürücü değil, genellikle öğretmenin kendisinin karara varması şeklinde gerçekleşmektedir. Öğretmenlerin bu kararı genellikle özel gereksinimli çocuğu ortamdan uzaklaştırmak yönündedir.

Bu çalışma; yedi-on dört yaş grubundaki çocukların akran istismarına uğrama durumlarını ve bu problem konusunda çözüm önerilerini ortaya koymak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya yüz kırk altı çocuk dahil edilmiştir. Araştırmada veri toplamak amacıyla Genel Bilgi Formu ve Akran Zorbalığını Belirleme Ölçeği, verilerin değerlendirilmesinde Tek Yönlü Varyans Analizi ve iki grup ortalaması kıyas testi (T Testi) kullanılmıştır. Gruplar arasında farklılığın anlamlı çıkması durumunda, farklılığın hangi gruptan kaynaklandığını belirlemek için Scheffe Testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda; çocukların yaş, cinsiyet, kardeş sayısı ve aile durumlarının akran istismarına ait bazı boyutlardan alınan puanlarda anlamlı (p<0.01, p<0.05) farklılığa neden olduğu bulunmuştur. Araştırmada elde edilen sonuçlar doğrultusunda öneriler getirilmiştir. Akran istismarını önlemek için okullarda önleme programları oluşturulmalı, bu programlar sınıf düzeyinde ve okul genelinde önleyici uygulamalar olarak iki ayrı düzeyde ele alınmalı, öğretmenler akran istismarı konusunun her boyutunu sınıf içinde ele almalı ve tartışmalıdır.

Laboratory rats have been widely used to study the development and neural underpinnings of play behavior. However, it is not known whether domestic rats play in the same way and at the same frequency as their wild counterparts. In this study, the play of juvenile rats from a colony of wild rats maintained in captivity was compared to that of a strain of domesticated rats (e.g., Long Evans hooded). Three predictions were tested. First, it was predicted that wild rats would incorporate more agonistic behavior in their play. This was not found, as in all cases, both the wild and the laboratory rats attacked and defended the nape during play, a nonagonistic body target. Second, because play is typically more frequent in domesticated animals than their wild progenitors, it was predicted that the wild rats should play less than the laboratory rats. This was found to be the case. Third, because wild animals tend to be less tolerant of proximity by conspecifics and tend to be more agile in their movements, it was predicted that there would be less contact between wild pair mates. This was found to be the case; data show that the play of laboratory rats involves the same target (i.e., the nape of the neck) and tactics of defense as those used by wild rats. However, the laboratory rats initiated playful attacks more frequently, and were more likely to use tactics that promoted bodily contact. These similarities and differences need to be considered when using laboratory animals as models for play in general.

Shyness is not a recognised special educational need, yet studies reveal that shy children underperform academically and present psychosocial vulnerabilities. We present a Norwegian study of elementary school teachers who have experience in working with shy children. Framed by a culturalhistorical understanding that concepts are tools employed by teachers as they work on problems of practice, the study examined (i) how shyness is a concept allowing teachers to interpret behaviours of children and (ii) why they employ the concept and what demands were being addressed. Data were gathered through post-observation stimulated recall interviews with 8 teachers and three focus group sessions with 11 teachers. Seeing shyness as a tool for identifying the demands made by children regarded as shy, revealed sets of child behaviours which required two distinct forms of differentiation: (i) augmenting cognitive support with psychosocial feedback to help the child overcome the behaviours impeding their engagement as active learners and (ii) making extra efforts when eliciting children's understandings in order to give formative feedback and support progress through pedagogic sequences. By identifying the behaviours underpinning broad descriptions of shyness, such as anxiety, the analyses show that teachers employ shyness as an overarching concept which reveals psychosocial demands that may not be entirely addressed by the repertoires of responses available to them.

Bu araştırma, Kobayashi ve diğ. (2013) tarafından geliştirilen "Geç çocukluk dönemine ait yaşam becerileri eğitimi" ölçeğinin Türkiye koşullarında geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışmasını ortaya koymak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Asıl ölçek İngilizce dilinde yazılmış olup, yedi faktörlü bir yapı altında toplam 24 maddeden oluşmaktadır. Bu faktörler problem çözme / sentez, arkadaşlar ile ilişkiler, kişisel görgüler, karar verme ve gelecek planlama, kendi kendine öğrenme, bilgi toplama, kullanma ve liderliktir. Ölçeğin uyarlama çalışması için İngilizceden Türkçeye çevirisi yapılmış, daha sonra dil, içerik, ölçme ve değerlendirme alanlarındaki uygunluğu için alandan uzmanların görüşlerine sunulmuştur. Uzmanların önerileri doğrultusunda ölçeğin üzerinde bazı değişiklikler yapıldıktan sonra, ölçeğin anlaşıla bilirliğini test etmek amacıyla veya İngilizcede taşıdığı anlamın Türkçeye tam uyarlanıp uyarlanmadığını belirlemek amacıyla ölçek, dört hafta ara ile bir grup öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Her iki ölçekten alınan puanlar arasındaki tutarlığı test etmek için, Pearson Momentler Çarpımı Korelasyon Katsayısı hesaplanmış ve 0,89 olarak belirlenmiştir. Buna göre, İngilizce ve Türkçe ölçekler arasında yüksek düzeyde pozitif ve anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu saptanmıştır. Dilsel eşdeğerliği sağlanan ölçek, Nizip ilçe merkezinde yer alan ortaokul düzeyinde öğrenim gören toplam 149 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Ölçeğin Cronbach Alpha iç tutarlık kat sayısı, 0,84 ve test-tekrar test güvenirliği ise 0,97 olarak saptanmıştır. Yapılan faktör analizi sonuçları, Yasam Becerileri Eğitimi (YBE) Ölçeğinin, orijinal ölçekten farklı olarak beş faktörlü bir yapı gösterdiğini ve yine özgün ölçekte yer alan 24 maddeden daha az maddeye sahip olarak 16 maddeden oluştuğunu ortaya koymuştur. Geçerlik ve güvenirlik analizleri sonucunda, ölçeğin Türkiye'de Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı'na bağlı okullarda öğrenim gören öğrencilerin yaşam becerileri eğitimine ilişkin algılarının belirlenmesinde, kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir araç olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

Naked Mole Rats (NMR) and their close relative the Damaraland Mole Rat are the only eusocial mammals. This study investigated whether NMR juveniles engage in play-like behavior within a crèche chamber in a laboratory colony and whether the frequent interruption of juvenile social interactions by adults suppress social play. One colony at the College of Staten Island, CUNY, was observed over the course of six months. An ethogram based on the NMR literature was used to code juvenile behavior in the crèche chamber one to two times a week for a total of thirty video sessions ~ 25-40 minutes in duration. The observations were separated into ten sessions divided into early, middle and late periods for the analysis of change over time. Juveniles exhibited bunching, standing in the same area as another juvenile, with and without play which tended to increase across the three periods when adults were absent, and both bunching and play decreased when adults were present. The results did not support the hypothesis that adult interruptions intentionally targeted or suppressed play. Instead, juveniles became increasingly less active in the presence of adults. Play in a mammal that lacks the functional repertories that usually benefit from play, (strengthening social bonds between mother-infant and age-mates and practice for subsequent mating)-support the claim that play in this group appeared to be motivated by basic drives to self-stimulate and satisfy fundamental appetites.

In this study, the differentiation status of preschool children&#39;s adaptation to school according to their relationship with teachers was examined. The study participants consisted of 326 children aged 60-72 months and 21 preschool teachers in different preschool educational institutions affiliated to the Provincial Directorate of National Education in Konya, Turkey. The School Adaptation Teacher Assessment Scale and Teacher-Student Relationship Scale were utilized to collect the research data. In the evaluation of the research data, firstly, teacher-child relationship scores were divided into groups for cluster analysis: conflictual/non-conflictual, dependent/ independent, and close/distant teacher-child relationship. Bu çalışmanın amacı, bilgisayar sunumlarına yönelik görüşlerin tespit edilmesini sağlayacak geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçeğin geliştirilmesidir. Bu amaçla öncelikle madde havuzu (82 madde) oluşturulmuştur. Sonrasında konu uzmanlarının görüşlerinden yola çıkarak yüzey ve kapsam geçerlik analizleri yapılmıştır. Analizler sonrası kalan 58 madde Likert tipinde 5'li değerlendirmeye sahip deneme formu şeklinde hazırlanarak toplam 366 öğretmen adayına uygulanmıştır. Uygulamanın sonunda elde edilen verilerin analizinde SPSS 20.0 istatistik programından yararlanılmıştır. Ölçekteki her bir maddenin ölçme gücü madde-toplam korelasyonu bakılarak yapılmış, düşük güvenirliğe sahip 24 madde ölçekten çıkarılmıştır. Ölçeğin yapı geçerliğini belirlemek amacıyla yapılan açımlayıcı faktör analizi sonucunda toplam varyansın %41.324'ini açıklayan ve anlamlı olarak kabul edilen 3 faktörlü, 29 maddeden oluşan bir yapı elde edilmiştir. Ölçeğin genelinden elde edilen Cronbach Alpha iç tutarlık katsayısı 0,897 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Bu haliyle ölçeğin yüksek derecede güvenilir olduğu söylenebilir.

Bu çalışmada Dick (2004) tarafından geliştirilen orijinali 64 madde ve dokuz faktör olan Babalık Ölçeği'nin (Fatherhood Scale) 14-18 yaş aralığındaki Türk çocukları için geçerlik güvenirliği test edilmiştir. Bu çerçevede ölçeğin dil geçerliği, kapsam geçerliği, yapı geçerliği ve güvenirlik çalışmaları yapılmıştır. Ölçeğin geçerlik ve güvenirlik analizleri için gereksinim duyulan verileri elde etmek için, dil geçerliği gerçekleştirilen form, çevrimiçi araçlar ve sosyal medya aracılığıyla 14-18 yaş aralığındaki 409 çocuğa ebeveynlerinden izin alınarak uygulanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde, SPSS ve AMOS programları kullanılmış, KMO, Barlett Sphericity testleri, açımlayıcı ve doğrulayıcı faktör analizi, iç tutarlılık katsayısı (Cronbach Alfa) gibi test teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Ölçeğin 14-18 yaş arası Türk çocukları için uyarlanan formu 52 madde ve 6 boyuttan oluşmuştur. Yapılan istatistiksel analizler sonucu ölçekteki maddelerin toplamı için Cronbach alpha iç tutarlılık katsayısı α=.967 olarak belirlenmiştir. Ölçeğin faktörlere ait güvenirlik katsayılarının ise .702 ile .972 arasında olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

In this study, we worked with both Turkish and U.S. samples to reveal how cultural influences might manifest themselves in the context of child-teacher relationships from children's perspectives. There were 243 preschoolers and 26 classrooms included in the U.S. sample. In the Turkish sample, 211 preschool children from 41 classrooms participated. Data were obtained via interviews and analyzed based on thematic analysis method. Three main categories were identified as positive, negative, and neutral relationship perception. In the Turkish sample, the frequency of the negative relationship perception of children toward their teachers was found to be much higher than positive and neutral relationship perceptions. In the U.S. sample, the positive relationship perception of children was found to be higher than negative and neutral relationship perceptions. Neutral relationship perception was found to be more frequently expressed by children in the U.S. sample. This is one of the leading studies giving an opportunity to hear children's voices about their relationship perceptions with their teachers, specifically with a cross-cultural viewpoint.

By conceptualizing Sexual Selection, Darwin showed a way to analyze intra-specific individual differences within an evolutionary perspective. Interestingly, Sexual Selection is often used to investigate the origins of sports, arts, humor, religion and other phenomena that, in several languages, are simply called "play." Despite their manifested differences, these phenomena rely on shared psychological processes, including playfulness. Further, in such behaviors there is usually considerable individual variability, including sex differences, and positive relationship with mating success. However, Sexual Selection is rarely applied in the study of play, with exception to what is concerned as infant training behavior for adult sex roles. We offer an integrated grounding of playful phenomena aligning evolutionary propositions based on sexual selection, which might stimulate further exploration of playfulness within evolutionary perspective.

Bu araştırmanın amacı Fantuzzo, Mendez ve Tighe (1998) tarafından geliştirilen Penn Etkileşimli Akran Oyun Ölçeği-Ebeveyn Formunu Türkçeye uyarlamak, ölçeğin geçerlik ve güvenirlik analizlerini yapmaktır. Gereç-Yöntem: Penn Etkileşimli Akran Oyun Ölçeği erken çocukluk ortamlarındaki akran oyun davranışlarını ebeveynlerin ve öğretmenlerinin anlamaları için 32 maddelik üç boyutlu bir ölçektir. Araştırma verileri İstanbul İl Merkezinde bulunan çoğunlukla orta ve üst sosyo-ekonomik düzeyde, yaş ortalaması 60.38 (SS= 9.98) olan, okul öncesi eğitim alan, 442 çocuğun ebeveynlerinden toplanmıştır. İlk adım olarak, Penn Etkileşimli Akran Oyun Ölçeği-Ebeveyn Formu dil ve kültürel açıdan Türkçeye uyarlandı. Ölçeğin geçerliliği Doğrulayıcı Faktör Analizi, alt ölçekler arası korelasyonlar ve alt-üst %27 lik grup puan farklarıyla ölçülmüştür. Geçerliliği ölçeğin iç güvenirliği de Cronbach's alpha yöntemi ile hesaplanmıştır. Buna ek olarak ölçeğin diğer ölçekler ile yordayıcı geçerliliğine bakıldı. Bulgular: Yapılan Doğrulayıcı Faktör Analizleri sonucu ölçeğin orijinal ölçekteki gibi üç faktörlü bir yapıya sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir: Oyun Etkileşimi (χ 2 (26)= 90.719, CFI=0.901, RMSEA=0.075, SRMR=0.05), Oyunun Bozulması (χ 2 (35)= 88.319, CFI=0.916, RMSEA=0.059, SRMR=0.043) ve Oyundan Kopma (χ 2 (34)= 81.715, CFI=0.892, RMSEA=0.056, SRMR=0.045) olarak bulunmuştur. İç güvenirlik katsayıları Oyun Etkileşimi (α=.72), Oyunun Bozulması (α=.75) ve Oyundan Kopma (α=.68) olarak bulunmuştur. Ayrıca ölçeğin öğretmen tarafından değerlendirilen sosyal gelişim ve biliş temelli problem davranış ölçekleriyle korelasyon göstermesi ölçeğin geçerlilik ve genelle bilinirliğini göstermiştir. Sonuç: Bu analizler doğrultusunda Penn Etkileşimli Akran Oyun Ölçeği-Ebeveyn Formunun, geçerli, güvenilir ve Türk çocuklarına uygun olduğu kabul edilmiştir. * Bu çalışma 4. The purpose of this study is to examine the long and short-term effects of aggressive behaviour with peers, asocial behaviours with peers, and excluded by peers levels of preschool children on the social-emotional variables (making contact-social performance and self-control-thoughtfulness). In this study, where five-yearold children were included, the pre-school education teachers completed the Child Behaviour Scale (aggressive with peers, asocial behaviours with peers and excluded by peers subscales) and Social-Emotional Well-Being and Resilience Scale (making contact-social performance and self-control-thoughtfulness subscales). According to the findings of the study, the problems in peer relationships decreased in the second measurements compared to the first measurements, while the social-emotional variables increased in the second measurements compared to the first measurements. In the study, the three problems faced in peer relationships predicted at least one of the social-emotional well-being variables both in the short-term and the long-term. This result may be interpreted as the fact that peer relationships have strong effects on social and emotional development.

This study was conducted to perform the validity and reliability analyses of the Social Behavior Scale for Preschool Children (SBS). The data were obtained as a result of the evaluation of the social behaviors of 315 children aged between 4 and 6, who were attending 6 independent kindergartens affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Kirikkale, by 20 teachers. In testing the validity of the scale, the expert opinion was obtained for content validity, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was performed, and the significance of the difference between the test scores of the groups, the face validity and characteristics of which were known, was checked for construct validity. For testing the reliability of the scale, the internal consistency coefficient and the test-retest reliability coefficient were calculated for each age group and each dimension of the scale. The aim of this study was to explore the moderating role of mother–child
relationships (closeness and conflict) in the relations between children’s
anxiety and play behaviour in the sample of Turkish preschool
children. Participants were N = 211 children (117 boys, M age = 64.08
months, SD = 12.26) attending preschool from suburban areas in Ankara.
Mothers rated children’s anxiety and mother–child relationships, whereas
teachers provided ratings of children’s social play. Among the results,
children’s anxiety and mother’s conflict was positively correlated with
reticence behaviour and negatively correlated with social play. Moreover,
mother–child closeness significantly moderated these associations. The
current findings suggest that mother – child relationships moderated the
association between unsociability and social play in children (buffering
effect). The interaction between anxiety and mother–child closeness
could be beneficial for predicting unsociable children’s social play
behaviour. Mothers can improve their relationship depending on
unsociable children to provide nurturing social play behaviour.
Limitations and future directions of the current study are discussed.

The present study aimed to examine the moderating role of the quality of the relationship between children and their teachers (i.e., closeness and conflict), in children's unsociability and play behaviors (i.e., reticent behavior, social play). Participants were 211 three-to six-year-old children (M = 64.08 months, SD = 10.92, 94 girls, 117 boys). Mothers reported their unsociability; teachers reported teacher-child relationships and children's play behaviors. Results showed that close teacher-child relationships moderated the association between unsociability and social play in children (buffering effect). Teacher-child conflict exacerbated the relations between unsociability and reticent behavior. Findings show that teacher-child closeness is effective in revealing social play behaviors of unsociable children. Teachers can improve their relationship with unsociable children to provide nurturing social play behavior.

Özet Amaç: Son yıllarda yapılan çalışmalar akran saldırganlığının ve mağduriyetinin değerlendirilmesinde itme ve vurma gibi yalnızca gözlenen boyutların değil, dedikodu yayma ve dışlama gibi ilişkisel boyutların da önemli olabileceğini göstermektedir. Bu amaçla geliştirilen iki ölçeğin Türk çocuklarına uyarlanması bu araştırmanın temel amacıdır. Yöntem: Ankara'daki ilköğretim okullarının ikinci kademesine devam eden 422 öğrenci saldırganlık, 415 öğrenci mağduriyet ölçeği uyarlama çalışmasına katılmıştır. Bulgular: Doğrulayıcı faktör analizleri, ölçüt geçerliği analizleri, test-tekrar test ve iç-tutarlık güvenirlik analizleri ölçeklerin psikometrik özelliklerinin Türk öğrencilerde kullanımlarının uygun olduğunu göstermiştir. Analizler gözlenen saldırganlığın erkekler, ilişkisel mağduriyetin ise kızlar arasında daha yaygın olduğunu göstermiştir. İlişkisel saldırganlık ile babanın eğitim düzeyi ve ailenin gelir düzeyi arasında pozitif bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Mağduriyet ise hem anababanın eğitim düzeyi hem de ailenin gelir düzeyi ile negatif bir ilişki göstermiştir. Son olarak, yaşla birlikte ilişkisel mağduriyet düzeyinin azaldığı bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Geçerlik ve güvenirlik analizleri, ÇBYÖ-KB'nin ve ÇSDÖ-KB'nin ilköğretim ikinci kademeye devam eden Türk çocuklarının gözlenen ve ilişkisel saldırganlık ile gözlenen ve ilişkisel mağduriyet düzeylerini değerlendirmeye yönelik araştırma ve uygulamalarda kullanılabileceğini göstermektedir. The aim of the study is to investigate the predictive effect of fathers' supporting development tasks of their children on their self-perception, level of being liked by their peers and their prosocial behaviours. The sample group of this study conducted by the correlational survey model consisted of 127 father and 127 children in the age group of 5-6 years attending preschool education in Denizli province, Turkey. In the study, the data were collected with the help of Scale of Supporting Development Tasks, Ladd and Profilet Child Behaviour Scale-Prosocial Behaviour Subscale, Peer Rating based Sociometric Technique, and Self-Perception Profile for Young Children. According to the results of the study, fathers' supporting development tasks of their children predicted the children's self-perception, the level of being liked by their peers, and their prosocial behaviour levels in a statistically significant way (p< 0.05).

Bu çalışma kapsamında Ladd ve Profilet (1996) tarafından geliştirilen Çocuk Davranış Ölçeği'nin (Child Behaviour Scale) Türkiye'ye uyarlama çalışmaları yapılmıştır. Toplam 59 madde olan ölçek, akranlarla saldırgan davranışlar, hiperaktivite, akranlarla asosyal ilişki, kaygı-korku duyma, akranlarla prososyal ilişki ve akranlar tarafından dışlanma olmak üzere altı alt boyuttan oluşmaktadır. Uyarlama çalışması kapsamına 64 öğretmen ve 336 öğrenci alınmıştır. Ölçeğin Türkçe Formu kullanılarak elde edilen veriler arasındaki ilişkilerin kuramsal yapı tarafından ne derece açıklandığını incelemek amacıyla doğrulayıcı faktör analizi yapılmıştır. Doğrulayıcı faktör analizi polikorik korelasyonlar üzerinde WLSMV tahmin yöntemi kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Önerilen modele ilişkin uyum katsayıları modelin orijinal yapıyla uyum gösterdiğine işaret etmektedir. Ayrıca ayrışma ve benzeşme geçerlik katsayıları ve yapı güvenirliği ve Cronbach Alpha kat sayıları Çocuk Davranış Ölçeği'nin Türkiye'de ilkokul çağındaki çocukların davranışlarını ve akran ilişkilerini değerlendirmede geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçek olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır.

Bu çalışma 3-6 yaş çocuklar için psikososyal durum değerlendirme ölçeği-ebeveyn formunun (PSDD 3-6) geliştirilmesi, geçerlik ve güvenirliğinin yapılması amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışma, Mayıs 2018-Ağustos 2018 tarihleri arasında 3-6 yaş çocuğu olan 254 ebeveyne uygulanmıştır. Ölçeğin geçerliği, kapsam geçerliği ve yapı geçerliği ile test edilmiştir. Ölçeğin güvenirliğini belirlemek için test tekrar test, Cronbach Alpha güvenirlik kat sayısı, Madde Toplam Puan Korelasyon katsayısına bakılmıştır. Bulgular: Verilerin kapsam geçerlik indeksi 0.82 ile 0.97 arasındadır. Açıklayıcı faktör analizi (AFA) ile 6 alt boyuttan oluşan yapının, doğrulayıcı faktör analizi (DFA) uyum indeksleri X 2 /sd=1.447, RMSEA=0.042, CFI=0.95, IFI=0.95, GFI=0.87 ve NNFI=0.94 olarak saptanmıştır. Ölçeğin Cronbach's Alpha güvenilirlik değeri 0.83, Test-tekrar test güvenilirliğini 0.957, Madde-Toplam Puan Korelasyon Katsayısı r=0.20'nin üstünde bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Ölçek 3-6 yaş grubu çocukların psikososyal durumlarının değerlendirilmesinde kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçektir. Erkek çocuklarının itiş kakış oyun ve yalnız pasif oyun davranışları kız çocuklarına göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde yüksek saptanmıştır (p<0,05). Çocukların sosyal duygusal uyumları ile itiş kakış oyun davranışları arasında negatif yönde orta düzeyde (p=0,001), sosyal oyun davranışları arasında pozitif yönde orta düzeyde (p=0,001), sessiz oyun davranışları arasında da negatif yönde zayıf düzeyde (p=0,003) istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Araştırma sonuçları çocukların oyuncak tercihleri, oyun davranışları ve sosyal duygusal uyumları arasında anlamlı bir ilişkinin olduğunu göstermektedir.

Bu arastirmanin amaci Cocuklar Icin Utangaclik Olcegi’nin (CIUO; Crozier, 1995) Turkce formunun gecerlik ve guvenirligini incelemektir. Utangacligin, yeni sosyal durumlardan korkma ve sosyal ortamlarda degerlendirildigini hissettiginde kisinin kendi uzerine yonelttigi dikkatinin artmasi ile karakterize olan bir kisilik ozelligidir. Arastirmada, Cocuklar Icin Utangaclik Olcegi Olcegin orijinal formu Crozier (1995) tarafindan gelistirilmistir. Olcegin uyarlamasina baslamadan once daha once olcegin uyarlanip uyarlanmadigi ve benzer calismalar arastirilmistir. Turkce literaturde utangaclikla ilgili olcekler incelenmis ve olcegin Turkceye uyarlanmadigi gorulunce orijinal olcegin yazari W.Ray Crozier ile e-mail yoluyla iletisime gecilmis ve olcegin uyarlanabilecegine iliskin gerekli izin alinmistir. Bu araştırmanın amacı Fantuzzo, Mendez ve Tighe (1998) tarafından geliştirilen Penn Etkileşimli Akran Oyun Ölçeği-Ebeveyn Formunu Türkçeye uyarlamak, ölçeğin geçerlik ve güvenirlik analizlerini yapmaktır. Gereç-Yöntem: Penn Etkileşimli Akran Oyun Ölçeği erken çocukluk ortamlarındaki akran oyun davranışlarını ebeveynlerin ve öğretmenlerinin anlamaları için 32 maddelik üç boyutlu bir ölçektir. Araştırma verileri İstanbul İl Merkezinde bulunan çoğunlukla orta ve üst sosyo-ekonomik düzeyde, yaş ortalaması 60.38 (SS= 9.98) olan, okul öncesi eğitim alan, 442 çocuğun ebeveynlerinden toplanmıştır. İlk adım olarak, Penn Etkileşimli Akran Oyun Ölçeği-Ebeveyn Formu dil ve kültürel açıdan Türkçeye uyarlandı. Ölçeğin geçerliliği Doğrulayıcı Faktör Analizi, alt ölçekler arası korelasyonlar ve alt-üst %27 lik grup puan farklarıyla ölçülmüştür. Geçerliliği ölçeğin iç güvenirliği de Cronbach's alpha yöntemi ile hesaplanmıştır. Buna ek olarak ölçeğin diğer ölçekler ile yordayıcı geçerliliğine bakıldı. Bulgular: Yapılan Doğrulayıcı Faktör Analizleri sonucu ölçeğin orijinal ölçekteki gibi üç faktörlü bir yapıya sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir: Oyun Etkileşimi (χ 2 (26)= 90.719, CFI=0.901, RMSEA=0.075, SRMR=0.05), Oyunun Bozulması (χ 2 (35)= 88.319, CFI=0.916, RMSEA=0.059, SRMR=0.043) ve Oyundan Kopma (χ 2 (34)= 81.715, CFI=0.892, RMSEA=0.056, SRMR=0.045) olarak bulunmuştur. İç güvenirlik katsayıları Oyun Etkileşimi (α=.72), Oyunun Bozulması (α=.75) ve Oyundan Kopma (α=.68) olarak bulunmuştur. Ayrıca ölçeğin öğretmen tarafından değerlendirilen sosyal gelişim ve biliş temelli problem davranış ölçekleriyle korelasyon göstermesi ölçeğin geçerlilik ve genelle bilinirliğini göstermiştir. Sonuç: Bu analizler doğrultusunda Penn Etkileşimli Akran Oyun Ölçeği-Ebeveyn Formunun, geçerli, güvenilir ve Türk çocuklarına uygun olduğu kabul edilmiştir. * Bu çalışma 4.
