3.5 stars
Silver Borne is a good installment but it feels like a catch up book tying up several loose ends. A few months have elapsed since Mercy was attacked. Her psyche is recovering as things run smoothly at her business and she's happy in her relationship with Adam. In the preceding four books, Briggs had given more insight into Samuel than Adam, so a focus on Adam is overdue.
Trouble comes in threes. Mercy has suspected Samuel's fragility and her fears have now borne rotten fruit. In addition to her housemate's fugue, there's antagonism from within the pack. Adam is ready for them to marry, but Mercy wants the pack to adjust better to circumstances before she even moves into werewolf central. They're far from accepting and some seem willing to take offensive action by taking advantage of pack magic to do so. Zee's son, Tad, contacts Mercy with concern about an item loaned by Phineas to Mercy in Iron Kissed #3. Mercy tries to return the borrowed book and grows wary a bit too late as she's unable to find Phineas. Dealing with Faes is never straightforward.

For Adam, screwed-up bonding thing or not, I’d wait forever.
“Really?” he asked in a tone I’d never heard from him before. Softer. Vulnerable. Adam didn’t do vulnerable.
“Really what?” I asked.
“Despite the way our bond scares you, despite the way someone in the pack played you, you’d still have me?”
He'd been listening to my thoughts. This time it didn't bother me.
“Adam,” I told him, “I’d walk barefoot over hot coals for you.”
