Vidit Santosh Gujrathi, an Indian chess grandmaster born on October 24, 1994, achieved the title of grandmaster in January 2013, becoming India's 30th player to do so.
He is among the elite few Indian players to surpass an Elo rating of 2700. Gujrathi's early successes include clinching the FIDE Master title in the U12 category at the Asian Youth Championships in 2006 and securing victory in the World Youth Chess Championship in the Open U14 section in 2008, making history as the first Indian to do so.
Throughout his career, Gujrathi has consistently displayed remarkable talent. Notable achievements include winning bronze at the World Junior Chess Championship in Turkey in 2013 and winning the Challenger event of the 2018 Tata Steel Chess Tournament.
Gujrathi continued to shine in recent years, highlighted by his impressive performance in the FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament 2023, where he secured victory with a score of 8/11, subsequently qualifying for the Candidates Tournament 2024.
He captained the historic gold medal-winning Indian team in the Online Chess Olympiad 2020.
