MILAN — As fashion customers have become increasingly spoiled by comfort provided by stretch materials, especially in the sportswear arena, Thermore, the Milan-based premium thermal insulation company for apparel and outerwear, has been banking on the category for quite some time.
Its latest product release, called Freedom, is also Thermore’s best case study in circularity.
In sync with the company’s sustainability-first mission, the new hyper-stretch padding is an update of a previous version — launched last year under the same name. The new iteration is crafted from 100 percent post-consumer, GRS-certified, recycled PET obtained from discarded plastic bottles and electronic supply, such as plugs, cables and connectors.

Freedom provides warmth and enhanced stretchability thanks to the “micro gaps” structure, which improves flexibility. Available in different warmth tiers, it is machine washable and can be dry cleaned, easy-care features that contribute to its versatility.
Thermore — which was established in 1972 — started offering high-performance, recycled insulation materials made of recycled PET bottles in the ‘80s, increasingly committing to a full-fledged sustainable assortment.
The first fully recycled fiber-based padding bowed in 2011 before the introduction, in 2019, of the signature Ecodown product, which repurposes 10 PET bottles per outerwear piece.
The company has since introduced one or two new products a year, including the most recent launch of Invisiloft, a slim padding intended for high-performance sportswear.
