• Spring professional development offerings from the Office of Strategic Consulting

  February 4, 2026

  Beginning February 19, the Office of Strategic Consulting will launch a new slate of virtual professional development sessions as part of its Ignite: Fueling Organizational Excellence and In Scope: Managing Projects at UW–Madison series. These sessions are designed to help faculty and staff build the knowledge and skills needed to improve efficiency, address challenges, and advance strategic priorities. Spring session topics range from making the most of meetings to leading projects in turbulent times. Sessions are free, but registration is required.

• Nominations invited for outstanding mentors

  February 4, 2026

  Nominations are open for the annual Awards for Mentoring Undergraduates in Research, Scholarly and Creative Activities, recognizing faculty members, groups of mentors, academic staff, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students for the outstanding work they do in mentoring undergraduates in their areas of professional activity. These awards provide $2,000 of university expendable funds (supplies and expenses) as well as recognition during the 2026 Undergraduate Symposium. Nominations are due March 3.

• UW investigates measles case

  February 4, 2026

  UW is working with Public Health Madison & Dane County and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to investigate a confirmed measles case in a student. The student lives in an off-campus apartment in Madison and is recovering after receiving medical care, but it is possible others were exposed to the virus. University Health Services (UHS) is providing guidance to all members of the UW community to help prevent further spread of the disease. Visit uhs.wisc.edu/measles to learn more.

• Overtime reporting for tax purposes

  February 4, 2026

  The Working Families Tax Cut Act will affect employees who were paid overtime in 2025. Employees who received qualified overtime compensation in 2025 may be able to deduct the pay that exceeds their regular rate of pay (such as the “half” portion of “time-and-a-half” compensation). For 2025, employees have received an email indicating the amount of their overtime pay that may be deductible for 2025. The email has been sent with the subject line “2025 – Overtime Earnings.” This amount will not be displayed on W-2 tax forms this year. • W-2 forms now available in Workday

  January 28, 2026

  The 2025 W-2 forms (Wage and Tax Statements) are now available online for all active Universities of Wisconsin employees, including UW‒Madison employees. To find your W-2 statement, log in to Workday and then go to My Tax Documents. You can also view your W-2 directly from the Timely Suggestions section of your Workday home page. Paper copies will be postmarked by Feb. 2, 2026, and sent via U.S. mail to employees who did not consent to electronic only W-2 form distribution. For detailed instructions on how to view and print your W-2 form, visit go.wisc.edu/9exd9u. If you have questions, contact the human resources office in your school, college, or division.

• Website provides resources to protect data privacy

  Data Privacy Week, January 26-30, is an annual campaign that fosters awareness of the importance of keeping personal information private and secure. UW shares a commitment to data privacy at the university. UW has developed a Data Privacy Week website that provides information about ways to practice data privacy, guidance for using AI, protecting student data, medical privacy, techniques to strengthen one’s own cybersecurity, and more. • Final call: Campus lactation space survey

  January 28, 2026

  Following a recent audit of campus lactation facilities, the Office of Child Care & Family Resources and UW Environmental & Occupational Health are seeking final feedback from pumping and nursing parents. This data is essential to ensuring campus spaces effectively meet the needs of the community. Current users are encouraged to complete the Lactation Room Feedback Survey by the Jan. 31 deadline.

• Spring 2026 guidance on federal immigration actions

  January 21, 2026

  UW remains committed to keeping the campus community informed so all can navigate rights, responsibilities and resources related to law and policy. It will not provide information on the immigration status of its students, faculty, or staff unless required by law. The university’s guidance for what to do if you are contacted by or come into contact with someone representing a government agency in a campus workspace remains unchanged and is posted.

• Showcase 2026 call for proposals and registration

  January 21, 2026

  The Office of Strategic Consulting is now accepting proposals for breakout sessions and posters at Showcase 2026, the annual campus event highlighting continuous improvement at UW–Madison. This free in-person event will be held at Union South on Thursday, April 23, from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Faculty and staff are encouraged to submit proposals for one-hour breakout sessions on topics related to organizational effectiveness. Breakout session proposals are due by Feb. 13. Proposals for posters are due by March 13. Registration is now open for the event.
